Event Coverage My trip to Bonneville episode 2 speed week 2016 mostly pictures

Figured I would start this a little early so if anyone wanted to follow along there would maybe be less chance of someone missing it..

Big difference is I'm taking my truck that I have half finished out there this year.. Going to trailer it out as I don't have many test miles on it and this will be a lot easier.. Maybe someday have something done and drive it from home all the way out...


Little back story of this.. I first bought a 1928 sedan which made me cross paths with a group of local guys that are into hot rods..

Couple years after meeting them they were talking about going to bonneville.. Not having a car done I booked a flight, rental car, and hotel room.. All backed out but one so he jumped on the plane with me and we went..

After that trip I had to go back again after seeing all that drives around and races out there.

I become really good friends with one of the oldest in the group since he was into the same kind of cars I am.. He helped me a lot along the way..

It was hard for me to imagine how he was into hotrods and building them for so long that he never had been to the races at bonneville. Even after living in Colorado for a few years.. Heck of a sight closer then ohio..

My plan for this year was to have my truck somewhat done and was going to borrow a trailer off a friend for both our cars and tell him he was going as a gift for all his help. But that plan fell through..

But for some piece of mind his family let me be part of making funeral arrangements and I was able to buy a keychain that has his ashes in it.. So he is still going along..

Back to the better side of things here is the thread of the truck from start to where it is now.

What part of Ohio are you from. I'm pulling out Monday morning from the far west side of Cleveland. JC

 

The main thing to pack is your camera. Push the button as many times as possible.

Coshocton-ish area I'm about 2.5hrs south of Cleveland.. I'm figuring three days shouldn't be to hard of driving..

I'm going to try and wear the shutter out on this trip haha

After goofing around I switched wheels and tire size. And think I'm sticking with this for the trip..

Thanks guys drove from about 8am till 11:30pm and made it into Nebraska... About 845 miles..

So far so good..





Only 1100 more miles to go.

I am so close to packing up Hannah and heading out next Sunday morning from Dallas. The weather is allowing racing this year and who knows... may never get another chance.

 

See you out there, be there Fri myself. I'll have my 52 GMC, it's all surface rust color, like my COE (avatar pic). Will look for your RPU. Nothing beats having a hot rod to drive around at Bonneville.
