I believe that is a REO Royale grill shell.

Is that a Divco in the background?

Ah, so yummy to look at.

 

1933 Pontiac grille on Ed's car. One turned upside down for the bottom.

 

These Divco Vans were built for Helms Bakery in Los Angeles. They were powered by various engines. The one that came to out house sounded like a Model A. They were used from the 30's through the 60's. Helms shut down in '69. Another great piece of L.A. history gone.

 

The one pictured by Mr Stutzer is a Fageol Twin Coach,DIVCO came into the picture I believe in 1936 and look somewhat different than the Twins,they are a little bigger that the Twins.
The Fageol's were powered with a Herc OB 4 cylinder.

Hello,
One of the things that Long Beach was famous for, back in the 60's, was the International Beauty Pageant. It went down Ocean Blvd near the world famous Pike Amusement Park. Watch the Cyclone Racer in the background. Now, floats have much more horsepower to make the floats move down the road, like the Rose Parade. But, back during this beauty pageant, look how the floats move... Yup...sailor power from the nearby Terminal Island Navy Base.

The branding/subtle differences is confusing. Here's one for sale that says it is a Divco AND a Helms vehicle:

You're right. They look similar, right down to the winged ornament. The REO would not have had a radiator cap. Not to mention it would be much harder to find two Royale grill shells.

 

The last time I saw a photograph of this FORMER Richfield , it was for sale as it very close to the UCLA parking lot . Anyone have any "Back story as to how modern MPD type pumps got installed ? I thought Southern California had darn near shut any NEW service station construction down ......

 

The Helms pictured in your link at the museum is a DIVCO the wheels are the dead give away,the one for sale is a Fageol,I don't believe Fageol and DIVCO worked together on these,something about a pissing contest when DIVCO horned its way into the business, I can ask Bill Fagoel but thats where most of my info comes from on these as I had one I worked on here and another sitting here to restore.

 

Didn't know what this was and looked around.... An Edsel of all things, seems I wasn't paying attention to Edsels by this time. I liked the first ones.

 

The sports car Scarabs handled very well and won a number of races..the formula one Scarabs were nearly obsolete in design by the time they were raced and performed poorly..there were 3 of the original 2 seat cars built.

I don't claim to "know" anything about these trucks, except I loved the old curvy, Twin Pines trucks of childhood.

Lots of mixing & matching of company sources - same a it was with GMC Truck & Coach/Truck & Bus/Yellow Coach.

And I for sure don't have a clue.

 

When Edsel first came out, I was Dennis the Menace age, and EVERYBODY guffawed about the Jimmy Durante nose they had.

I never liked their styling myself.

And then I saw this pic and thought "Damn, that's a beautiful car!"

 

These were the Helm Bakery vans I remember seeing go through my neighborhood when I was a kid.
