  4. All I know, is that when the Beatles hit the USA shores, my sister was ruined. Up until then, she seemed like such a sensible girl - biggest concern in her life was getting a new outfit for her Barbie Doll.

The careers of all the candy-pop stars of the day like Tommy Roes (I'm so dizzy) - straight down the toilet.

At the ’67 March Meet in Bakersfield, California, the Ford SOHC-powered Don Long dragster won. Don Prudhomme was getting used to his new Lou Baney ride, having supplanted Tom McEwen who switched to Funny Cars after growing impatient with the SOHC learning curve both he and engine builder Ed Pink were dealing with. It was at this event where the results of Prudhomme’s familiarity started netting results. That’s Baney on the left, Prudhomme in the middle, with engine builder Pink to the right.

Connie Kalitta was a Ford man back in the ’60s and ran a couple of versions of his SOHC-powered Bounty Hunter Top Fuel dragster. In the day, you were as likely to be the owner/driver/wrench as not, and obviously from this shot you can see Kalitta was all of the above. In 1967, he won the NHRA, AHRA, and NASCAR Winternationals. In 1969, his last front engine dragster ran a 429 Ford Shotgun engine, which was featured on HOT ROD’s June ’69 cover.

The Logghe brothers shop was just outside of Detroit and was Ford’s drag-racing fabricating arm, so-to-speak. Ron and Gene were early innovators of the Funny Car chassis, creating and developing the flip-top body, tube-frame, ladder-bar rearend Funny Car concept. They were also involved with a handful of competitive dragsters since before the Funny Car revolution, including this AA/Gas SOHC dragster from 1967.

Probably the most beautiful Sports/Racers ever built

  13. It was a 1969 movie - year I graduated. Here in podunk, we were still used to seeing Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke in separate twin beds. The whole drug thing, male prostitution, gay, never discussed - it may have existed - but we never EVER talked about it.

Just a couple years earlier of this flick, we saw Dustin Hoffman in Mrs Robinson "The future is plastics, son!".

Lots of seat squirming and nervous coughs.
Well, the needle has moved some since then, hasn't it?!

Indeed they were. None better, then nor since. In my teens, I paid homage to them with slot cars with Scarab bodies and colors.

The Scarabs were beautiful, but didn't handle/perform as well as they looked ?
    Reventlow committed suicide ?

No, his Mother was Barbara Hutton, heir to Woolworth. Reventlow died in a plane crash.

Thank you, I had a feeling that I was incorrect, but that was my recollection.

Peter Revson was the heir to Revlon and was killed in a F1 practice cash in So. Africa.

Yup. Charles Revson was the founder of Revlon and the uncle of Peter. However, Peter's father Martin was also involved in Revlon.

Amazingly, Peter Revson's father just died this year at the age of 106!
