    Roo,
Some of my internet-friends from New Zealand like to say that their country is Switzerland of Oceania, but even better - has own Ocean and own big island at West of it (known the best as land of kangaroo, rabbit, sheep, dingo and many other strange animals...). That big island at most part has desert, not to mention snakes, crocodiles, sharks and so on in rivers and ocean... Because of all that, they do not regret that this big island was separated geographically and politically, some time in past from their magnificent New Zealand.

However, no need to go to New Zealand for pleasures and enjoyment in wonderful country – I allready live in original Switzerland...

    Hello Rolf,
Your information led me to quite interesting story - problem it is on German language!
    http://mv-naumburg.de/index.php/peter-a-moritz/105-1919-eine-mutige-firmengruendung
Just a few fragments, translated by GOOGLE translator:

    1919: A brave company formation
On 25/03/1919, a native of Eisenberg Kaufmann Paul Otto Peter and the Berlin engineer Albert Karl Moritz Report the district court Zeitz its newly founded company Peter & Moritz as a partnership to. As "line of business" is entered in the commercial register: "purchase and sale, as well as restoration of motor vehicles and construction and operation of such."
Few months ago returned from the war, the two company founders little more on their side than their technical and business skills and some good ideas. Peters recently deceased father bought a few years ago a Eisenberger sausage factory, which probably no longer is but in operation, because in their rooms, the new "automobile factory", but for the time being not much more than a workshop, furnished. Soon, the development of a new type of car is the main objective of the two shareholders. To increase the technical expertise they bring in November the young and highly talented engineer C. W. Gehring as a manager in the company.”
    ... ...
1920: The Volkswagen comes - from Eisenberg
The tests carried out in addition to the repair and maintenance operation development time mid-1920 a first success. The German Patent Office carries on 23/06/20 a notified of Paul Peter, Karl Moritz and Christoph Willi Gehring "motor vehicles" in the utility role, protecting it thus against counterfeiting. As protector specificity of their construction, the contractor had been deleted their hitherto unmatched simplicity, ease and economy in its application. On July 6, reports the Eisenberger local newspaper: "The first Eisenberger small car of Peter & Moritz AG yesterday evening the workshop to leave a test drive The codes in the vehicle hopes have been fulfilled in every way...
A few weeks later, on August 31, the Eisenberger can their sheet then remove the report from the first large-scale Tauchlichkeitstest: "A Volkswagen car works of Peter & Moritz went at noon on Saturday of Weimar about Frankfurt am Main to Godesberg a Rh... where he arrived on Sunday evening. the 600-kilometer route has been completed without the slightest disturbance.
The so-vaunted "Volkswagen" is a micro car the easiest way is with two-speed transmission without reverse gear and a transverse 1.3-liter boxer engine, protrude the cylinder on both sides of the hood and then cooled by the airstream. It is modeled after many years very successful English "Rover Eight" Cyclecar in many of its features and corresponds largely to what also numerous other small and micro car companies offer .. The price of the car is as high as 10,000 marks. It should be temporarily made 10-12 pieces per month.”

It seems that Peter & Moritz were on good direction to build the “The First Volkswagen”, made a few prototypes, some smaller production of cycle-cars and later of bigger cars, but...

    Zoran

    - that defines it then. (E.B. might have said this is a truck/lorry/camion)

Gentlemen, I bow to your disciplined approach. Some images evoke more than just `Car Envy` and it is hard not to comment on them as such.....:)

off-topic as agreed, but the reference to 'sets of cylinders' in a straight-six is ... confusing.
    - and note a tenuous cyclecar (light car?) connection in that pre-war, DFP's London agents were the Bentley bros., otherwise making engines for Sopwiths, etc.

Is there a generally agreed upon definition for a cyclecar? Engine capacity perhaps or rated horsepower such as England used for taxation purposes? Or wheelbase?

The Burgess-wise bible on Amilcar provides good details about classification of cycle cars. Dont have it with me but I think it was something like 300kg dry weight for tax purposes. Bob will know.
