Thanks Steve I appreciate it! Still waiting for one more roll of film to get developed from the race. It was special slide film so I had to send it out.

 

Just got my roll of Fuji Velvia 50 slide film sent back to me. Unfortunately looking through the photos it looks like the lens I used has a back focusing problem. This was the first time seeing film developed from that lens. I know it's the lens because I used other lenses on the same body the entire weekend without this issue. Either way some of the shots came out nice. If it wasn't for the focusing problem most of the roll would have produced some gorgeous images. Oh well. Better luck next time. I didn't really retouch the images. It would be a sin to alter the color or contrast naturally produced by the velvia slide film. Has a nice Kodachrome feel. I just cropped and leveled a tiny bit. I went to open the back of the camera in my hotel room and realized I didn't rewind the roll until the back was already open. It was really dark in my room but it was just bright enough to overexposed one of the shots. It's posted way down below. Here's what I got.

 

You definitely have a "photographers eye". Is there any reason to shoot print film (negative film) versus slide file (positive film) if you intend to have the result scanned?

Thanks man I appreciate that. I've never shot with Fuji velvia before so that's one reason I wanted to shoot it. Especially at Trog. But velvia has seriously punchy colors and contrast and a wider tonal range than normal negatives. This roll was ISO 50 so it needs a lot of light, which is all you can get on the beach. It also is a type of film that really requires a properly working slr camera and the photographer to be super conscious about the camera settings. It's way less forgiving. So it was kind of a test for myself. It's a "what you see is what you get" process. It's also a great way to see what differences you can get by your shutter speed and aperture adjustments. Unfortunately my lens screwed up the whole roll.

Bitchin'! The colors of the film really suit the feel of the cars and event.

Got any Neutral Density filters you could throw on? That could help with the bright sun, you could really get some nice panning shots with a lower shutter speed.

Also, if you decide to get a negative scanner, get just that, not a flatbed with a negative adapter. They're a PITA.

 

The B&W are wonderful. Guys w/digital will be wanting the "polka dot" effect for their pics. Dont forget we have a thread for flag girls. And thanks for doing this.

Thanks a ton Ryan I appreciate that! I'm more than happy to take the time to develop / scan / retouch my 35mm and share it with you guys any time. I'm flattered to hear this material is inspiring. I pick it apart like crazy in my head though lol.

Currently trying to upgrade to some Leica glass but I don't think I'll ever get rid of my canon fd stuff. It's just flat out fun to shoot with. I wish the slide film came out better, but due to that back focus issue with my wide angle 28mm I'll have to redeem myself with some velvia at next years TROG. Thanks again man.

The thought that has come to mind for me is that with all the "obsolete in six months" computer and digital technology these days, will today's digital images be view-able in, say, a hundred years? I've had trouble looking at some old stuff I found on the old floppy disks from the 80's simply because I can't find a working floppy disk gizmo.
I have pictures of my great great grandmother taken over a hundred years ago that are in excellent condition. It would be a shame to lose zillions of pictures that we've all taken to advanced technology...
