I love the look of the Lee lenses that were made by Lee plastics in Detroit, I buy them when I can find em and ran a set on my impala for decades. (Got that set for 10 bucks nos at a swap in the '80s) ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1468277852.555961.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1468277886.539140.jpg

Were they offered pin striped, were they decals, or done by the owner? Really cool way to customize a car. I still vote to keep em on that 61.

  8. I loved those back in the 50's and 60's. Does anyone have the details about why the company went away?

the ford lenses in the lower right of the last pic are what was offered by Lee. they have a water slide decal on them. I took the Lees off my impala after many people told me they could not see my brake lights in the daytime

  10. I bid on this pair for 1959 Ford that was on ebay but didn't get them. Probably should have....

I've always been a fan of the Lee's 56 Chevy tail light lenses.

  12. Mark, I just noticed the 1960 Chrysler's. What a cool set of lenses, they must be rare!
What's the edge of them look like? Almost looks like a flame pattern in the photo.

that is just a pair of stock chrysler tail lites

  16. I see that now.

With the chrome bezels? The reflections of the lee lenses in the display make it look like Chrysler lenses with a white border with a red pattern on it.

yeah, those are the repops, not quite the same as the originals but they are a bit safer because the originals did not refract light as they were made with smooth acrylic

  19. Larry, I have seen that site before. I found this statement on the home page:
"Since 1982, we have created reproduction lenses for select models from the 30s through the 60s. These are reproductions of lenses produced in Detroit in the 1950's and 60's. Our products page has a complete list of tail light lenses available including images of each lens."

Cool though that someone is making them. Anybody know if this company is still going? The links on that site don't seem to work.

I really liked the peaked lenses for the 57 Ford. They gave a "tunneled look" to the taillights to match frenched headlights ------------- yea, I know bolt ons aren't the same and are the lazy way out. :D

Looks like Mooneyes still lists them in their on line catalog. I haven't bought anything from them lately either, so..................

  21. It's probably been about five years ago or so, but I bought some taillight lenses from them. Nice quality and fast service.
Be nice if they started reproducing a lot of the more uncommon car lenses that they were manufacturing in the 50's and 60's. E

  22. Got them on my 57 Buick .

From chasing parts for Panheads and Knuckleheads, I've found that it's a lot easier to use the reproduction parts and running them while your looking for original stuff that might not show up for 5 years at a time. It can be the difference in using a vehicle and letting it sit.

I talked to Johnny from Lee Lenses at Columbus Friday, cool guy. leelenses.com

  29. Some of the reproductions are pretty good, some are off enough to be noticeable. I found some about the time I joined the HAMB in the original boxes in the original shipping box from JC Whittney, with invoice. They were for a '56 Chevy which I knew I would never own but I had to have them. The '56 Chevy lights were my favorites.

I never saw them, I couldn't bring myself to break the tape on the boxes. A friend was doing a five six and he ended up with them. I finally saw them. LOL

    Can't beat Lee Lenses

  30. ...........so I was wiring my buddy, Larry's 50 ford and working on the stop light circuit. I didn't realize both filaments of the 1157s were lit for about 1/2 hour and melted his lee lenses,,,drat!
