I like everything about Bruce's truck. It has the look and it drives nice too! He gave me a ride in his new shop truck last weekend. I am still smiling, it is so cool.

Hey thanks for the details. If you don't mind, I'd appreciate a little bit of clarification – So you moved both the front and rear axle on top of the springs, right? No other suspension mods? How much did you raise the steering box? If the Z in the frame in the front, back or both? If it's Z'd in the back, is the bed floor raised? Thanks!

So it looks like the kick is just in the rear. Is there a c-notch in the front? Is the front lowered by just the spring flip? Do you have a picture of the bed floor to accommodate the rear kick?

My '55 F100 was close to your color when I got it, (had '50 Merc taillights, an F100 friend talked me out of them for his!)
Nice frame trick on rear, very subtle.
Mine has a '58 front axle, wife built a pair of reversed eye, flattened springs to go with it. (Broke a Monoleaf...No more o' THAT jazz...)
Mine has a 350/350 also, was a gift from a customer. Great combo, kept my F100 center crossmember!
Two of my sons also have '55 F100s... (three Germans can't be wrong!)

 

Its actually a 53 with a craigslist old chrome 56 grill
the rear is a 5" z right behind the bed front and reversed eye main leafs
the front is just moved to the top with a C notch and I boxed that area
the big hump in the frame shown in the pic is for the steering box raise
It ended up being bigger than I normally would have made it but the frame was severely damaged in that area so thats a large 3/16 fish plate. also the front horns were hacked off so I made new ones, hence the little diamond fishplate
the bed floor only had to come up 3 1/2" because there is xtra space in there stock and I crowded the floor to the top of the frame nobody has even noticed that its raised up

So, am I right to think that cutting any gallon of Rustoleum with lacquer thinner and putting in some Napa hardener will get a passable paint job? What percentage are you cutting for the easier non-flake Rustoleum? How much hardener and specific name? Sorry for all the questions, but I would like to fool around with my kids 4 foot steel speeder car. I have cheap knock-off gun as well (40 pounds of pressure)?

Im using napa PIH50 hardner 30 bux a quart
and AcmeFT220 Lacquer thinner, they have the Acme thinner on sale at our local Napa ocasionaly for 36 bux for 5 gallons, dont try to use home depot or Ace laq thinner .use only paint grade laq thinner
I have no experience with brand name rustoleum, only Ace rust stop.but I think its the same shit
but they have a mixing bank at Ace and will match any color, the metallic color I mixed comes out satin, because of all the aluminum particles in it, but the solid color Ruststop W/hardner comes out as glossy as any old style enamel job
I use about 2/3 of a cup paint 1/8 cup hardner and the rest thinner
but its pretty forgivable
I suggest testing it on something first
I dont use any etch prime ,sealer ,epoxy,DP, or any of that shit, just acrylic laq primer
I worked in a body shop from1976 till about 83, none of that shit existed
I still mud over clean bare metal
acrylic laq prime over that, or if Im lazy I use Napa polyprime then piss coat it with acrylic lacquer primer
and paint right over that
but Im a cheapskate and I figure those big paint companies just want our money
I dont even use wax and grease remover but I make sure my hands are clean
and I dont allow any silicone shit in my shop
I believe the less shit under your paint the better
but that is just my opinion

 

oh and If you paint anything yellow out in the driveway you will have 5000 bugs in it

hey Chris thanks for putting that pic with the hood on here
the hood on these things is a bitch
a friend gave me this hood cause it had fallen over on its top when stored standing up and the top was caved in
but it was rust free so I repaired it
fits OK for never being on this truck before
a little more tweaking and it should be pretty good
side glass and a white tonneau and chain covers and ill be ready to get back on old cars

Nailed it, good eye,love the interior material.

 

got about 600 miles on it now and couldnt be happier with the way it drives
no bump steer problems with the raised steering box
even with the bias plys it does great on the freeway
