In my present condition, I was not able to attend LARS.....yeah, cancer sucks...that's my excuse... but I am seriously disappointed in my fellow Hamb members that WERE able to attend this years LARS event! ...IT'S BEEN A WEEK ALREADY!!....where's all the dadgum pics for cryin outloud! notice...rant starts now I remember the good old days around here when events such as these were akin to a religious pilgrimage...kinda like in the 50's/60's when you put on your Sunday best to fly on an Airplane, or travel by Bus. Names like Bad Bob, Don Dillard, Dave Lindsey, Leonard, etc. were revered for their fantastic pics and coverage of all the well known, and some not so well known events. There would be dozens of threads...all on the main page...and they would stay up top for DAYS and DAYS after the events with stragglers adding their own pics as they could. The best part of LARS coverage didn't come from inside the gates of the show, but out in the parking lots...where all the REAL work horse hot rods were parked...not the show ponies. Nowadays.... we DO get a trickle or two of threads...a couple really good ones too...but it seems if I want to see ALL the really cool cars, (not just the show ponies) I have to rely on some young fucker with a FB/IG account posting a link to their pics because they are to lazy to post the pics here...and I'm too old to navigate all that internet shit!...I want the good old days back!! Happy Sunday...carry on...
I'll get my Kodak Browie fired up, brother. You guys heard him, let's get those pics up NOW. Larry gets mean when he's bored.
I hear ya man, I do my best to post a lot of pics at the events I attend. like this...... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/custom-car-revival-2016.1022233/
Those "I'm with Larry" T shirts should be a big seller. Missed LARS this year, but my daughter is taking me to Pebble Beach, I'll be taking lots of photos there. Bob
Well I have posted lot's of pictures of different events I have attended, only to be bashed by some who don't like the format that I post my coverage. So if the complaints and discouragement's I receive is any indication of the treatment others may receive I can't blame folks for not posting their coverage. Careful of what you wish for or complain about it just might come back to bite you in the back door. Joe
I do not know the specifics behind what you are referring to, but people that post event coverage need to remember that this is the Hamb, a traditional site and need to refrain from posting pics of late model vehicles and vehicles with billet wheels and modern street rods. those types of posts get reported to the moderators and we then have to clean them up. It is never a personal attack on the person posting as much as it is just trying to keep the content on topic.....
I have to rely on some young fucker with a FB/IG account posting a link to their pics because they are to lazy to post the pics here.. .
Comments like this really don,t help your cause.
I totally understand the O/T image thing Morriarty, that has never been an issue, I try and keep my post on topic I will admit that sometimes a off topic picture will slip into some posts. In my case it's not intentional I try and keep that from happening but it does happen from time to time. Especially when I am posting numerous pictures. joe
I live too far away from these big events or I would be posting show threads. I agree with Larry, there used to be lots more of them, there are some from time to time. I see members post pics of various shows, many give an overview, kids, bands, pinup models, OT cars... ctc. I appreciate the time and effort taken but as Moriarity mentioned, the cars posted need to within the HAMB focus, when they aren't, certain pics get deleted or the thread locked, then the OP gets mad/discouraged and doesn't post pics anymore.
Comments like this really don,t help your cause.
oh for cryin outloud... I are what I are...ain't gonna change now to suit politically correct cry babies that need to grow a thicker skin...sorry ...and I wasn't referring to you, unless you were the one offended
Politically correct sucks.....this country would be much better off if more people were politically incorrect....like our favorite Bubba, 3wLarry.
Comments like this really don,t help your cause.
Yes actually they do add to the cause. Thumbs up to Larry.
Comments like this really don,t help your cause.
I don't subscribe to fartbook or a instant gratification,so like Larry I depend on Hambers to post their photos like they use to. Larry's remarks are what is expected from a curmudgeon such as himself and reflects the same opinion of many of us old farts.HRP
I don't make it to many shows at all, so I have to rely on threads on the HAMB to get my fix. I appreciate all the coverage I can get, but 9 times out of 10 I won't bother with a link to FB or IG...those pages often load slowly, are crowded with other stuff I don't want to look at, or have low-rez compressed photos with cheesy filters on them. And by Larry-metrics I'm a "young fucker", too! So, to all the photo-takers...please keep posting on the HAMB, center of the known universe.
I did an all week review of L.A.R.S., but unfortunately over on my Face book business page, Hot Rod Central Louver Co. That's kinda why I have been so sparse around here for the last year or so, because I can advertise my services without stepping on toes. With that said..... More a bit later....
" when you put on your Sunday best to travel by bus " was a pretty good one 3w. I can still remember back that far. Those who posted pics thank you very much.
I'm not in the Old Timer club just yet but I too miss the heavy coverage of events. I'm not on FB, I don't want to be on FB and damn sure not going to sign up just to look at pics on FB. I guess that makes a "traditional" interweb user. I don't go chasing after fabs. FB is like the billet of the Internet. No thanks!
I have my own reasons, but I tried Facebook, but AFAIC, FUCKABUNCHAFACEBOOK!!! HAMB is where it's at!
I agree with you Larry. I to miss the great event coverage that used to be on the HAMB.I especially miss Denise (hotrodladycruiser) and Meghan (chevygirlrocks) a. They used to provide epic coverage of event's including there trip there and back. I guess thing's are changing and not necessarily for the better . Gregg
I too am anti-FB. However, there was an interesting thread over on Fordbarn last week and it seems as if 80% were extolling the virtues of FB. Maybe one of the reasons that we were able to make things happen in the fifties and sixties was the fact that we were not distracted and depended on face to face social meetings to exchange ideas.
Im so happy to read a post from you! And of cause it doesn't help you case, but it helps the point, and I would have my doubt it was you who wrote it if you didn't put it like that! I just wrote a "funny" statement about you on the "just chicks hanging out", no direct connection between you and the title, but you might find it funny. How are you, by the way, apparently better then the photo update, because you are here. And thanks to @need louvers?
