Technical Coos Bay, Oregon HAMBers, a little help

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Mark Yac, Jun 14, 2016.

  1. Guys , I'll be passing through your city on Wednesday, June 15th.
I'm traveling with my RV ,and a small street legal motorcycle on a rack attached to the trailer hitch.
I managed to bend and damage the r.r. corner of the rack when I attempted to back the RV up on a steep incline.
The bike is okay like it is for now , but the rack corner is even lower than it should be .
I have tools and whatever else I need, but I just need a place to work on it for a few hours.
A mig welder would be nice, but not necessary for now.
You can call my cell @ 602-769-0346 or email me @ [email protected].
    I am in Brookings now.
Secondly, would there be any local cruise nights or car shows this weekend?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

You are in Brookings now and heading north?

  3. Yes. Going to stay here tonight, and drive to Coos tomorrow, but I don't have any schedule that I have to adhere to.

If you come through roseburg I could help you Wednesday or Thursday evening.

  6. Thanks for the offers . Looks like I should be on I 5.
My very loose plan is to stick with US 101 for the next month or so.
I'll poke around in Coos tomorrow unless I hear otherwise.
    Thanks again

Saturday is the Rose City Round Up. At the Jubitz truck stop just of of I-5 right at the state line for Oregon/Washington. Its put on by the Driven Dead CC and goes all day. Good luck with your repair.

  9. I fixed it at a Walmart parking lot, for now. Thanks for the replies.
A couple of Boy Scouts walked by and offered to help, so I put them to work.
Apparently there are no hot rodders, HAMBers, car shows, cruise nights etc. in Coos bay. Just boaters and fishermen I suspect.
I'm in Newport now, and probably will be for the 4th. Any car stuff here. Anybody know?

  10. If you are going to be on the Oregon Coast for the 4th I suggest that you go to Seaside. Some of the absolute best street brawls in history have happened in seaside on the 4th of July. :D

The Oregon coast is not about cars and is not the place to be if that is what you are about. It is about tourism and beauty, ignore the tourists and look for the beauty. There is so damned much to see cars should be the farthest thing from your mind.

Oldies Drags at Woodburn Dragstrip weekend of June 24th. 30 miles S of Portland.

  12. Well that's a little drive from Coose Bay but it would be worth the trip. ;)

  13. ...As he says , on a hot rod forum..
    Thanks...I think

  14. Thanks. I will be going there July 15th-17th for the NHRA Divisional race

  15. Sorry spent my youth traveling the coast from San Francisco to Portland mostly on the coast. Never in my life did I ever see anything car related on the coast.

  16. You are 100% right about that.
They DO have cannabis stores now though . @ -_- @

On 101, You just have to pick the right month gents. The coast has some great car clubs and hot rods. Maybe some day we will organize our own beach races at Longbeach, WA where it is still legal to drive on the beach.
    September at the coast;
September 3, Surf City Cruise in, Lincoln City, OR at Chinook Winds Casino
September 4-7, Wheels and Waves at Seaside, OR. (this is a good one, pre-64 on Broadway)
September 9-11, Rods and Rhodies in Florence, OR (never been there)
September 12-13, Rod Run To The End Of The World, Ocean Park, WA (big event, $500 burn out ticket, don't ask)
September 13, Crusin the Bay, Lincoln City, OR
September 20, Cruise the Coos, Coos Bay, OR

The Seaside riots would have been in the early 70's. A little early for the two biggest car shows on the PNW coast which take place on the weekend after Labor Day. 1000 plus cars get together at Seaside and Long Beach across the bridge in Washington.

I'm guessing that during your youth, all the new cars were HAMB era cars.

Started going to this one in the mid eighties when it was at the school.
Yep, the crazies came close to ending this one.
And garage sales the length of the peninsula.

^^Correct^^^, it was a lot more fun before they started bringing in every off duty cop in the entire state of Washington. We saw badges from as far away as Centralia, Olympia and places I've never even heard of before. Some last year wore black paramilitary outfits. Looked like utter morons patrolling the streets dressed like that. Every time we popped a squat we witnessed another cuff and stuff. I heard the police count was over 300, looked like more. They even move in a mobile home to use as a temporary courthouse. I suppose the crazies caused it but a lot of us started avoided it lately which really hurts the businesses that look forward the revenue every year but helps the police revenue so maybe it's a fair trade. Too bad, the Beach Baron's through a nice party, cool group.

1946Caddy, it was on the same weekend last year and I attended the Wheels and Waves rather than RodRun, I think a lot of us did so maybe that's why the date change??

  23. Thanks for the info.
It looks like it will be a case bad timing for me this year.

Come by Portland International Raceway any Wednesday night during summer when it is not raining. Beaches cruise-in is a classic. You won't believe it is an every week event. You might end up staying over an extra week to see it again. Portland may like keeping it weird but this event is cool.

  25. I was there for a couple but they say that the one in '66 was the best.

Most of my youth yes they were, well if you count the period between '54 and '65. :D

@markyac cannabis stores were not an issue, I always had my own. ;)

Beaner, not sure but I think that "the best" was much earlier. I recall hearing stories of one of my older cousins getting arrested for being part of the group inciting a riot in Seaside in the early 60's.

  27. I was just going by what the older guys told me.

I'm not sure how long the rioting in seaside went on or when it started but by the time you and I were in high school it was an institution. LOL Almost a right of passage if you were a hood. :D

I guess your right on the time frame. I thought I missed them because of the service in 1967 but it must have been no car to attend. Spent alot of time there from 65-67.
