That's an interesting statement given that the color looks different in both photos and they are both likely nowhere near what the color actually looks like off of the computer screen.
So, which color do you actually like

So, let's keep this thread alive. It has been great so far. I'm moving towards doing some paint work on my RPU, but I'm not there yet.

If it were up to me I would merge your thread into mine.

 

I know lots and lots of people who used that term, though more of them die every year. It was a brand name of polyethylene sheeting. People who were alive in the fifties came to use that name as a general name for plastic sheeting, in much the same way we call all tissues Kleenex, regardless what company makes them.

Its pretty busy, the copper kinda muddy's the color up to my eye. check out the new dodges with black pearl, nice effect and looks good, I'm sure any jobber can mix it in their line. Their medium silver actually has rainbow flake in it as well.

 

Here are a few pics from my '51 Ford F1 project from 2011. We lived in an apartment with just a parking lot back then.

 

I still call it that, don't seem to hear the term outside construction though. Seems like visqueen goes under concrete for vapor barrier, painters just calls it plastic.

 

I've called it visqueen for 35 years.....went into Home Depot not long ago and asked the kid what isle the visqueen was on. He said he never heard of it and went to an older guy that said quickly what isle it was on. The kid said, that's plastic sheeting.... I think the young ones don't know....

 

^ Hey, pulling out 'ol fart terms is great entertainment. The wife's grandmother would refer to a verbal flub as a ''boner''. Great fun at the Thanksgiving table.

 

As in "he/she pulled a real boner". Hahaha

 

Visqueen is a brand name.

I draw structural building plans for a living, and to call out things by brand name is discouraged as being anti-competitive, so my drawings always describe this as a "10 mil vapor barrier".

Guys on the job site still call it Visqueen.

Anyhow this is what I used when I built my illegal paint booth and shot turquoise Starthane polyurethane on my boat.

That was about 2000AD, and 16 years later the paint still holds up well.

The 36 was painted in 1987 in the drive way, the paint is still stuck to the car! Have a shop now that I paint in. Many cars have been covered with shiny stuff in there. The latest is the 58 Edsel Pacer. Get a pretty good job, won a Top 10 first time out other than breakfast with the boys. Now a 57 Ranchero.

 

Set up a plastic sheeting paint booth in the garage and shot the Dragster cowl and tins last week end. Candy Apple Red base coat, Roth Ruined Retina Monster Flake and 3 wet coats of clear to burry the flake. All cured and ready to cut and buff.
Hard to get a good photo of the flake but it turned out killer!!!
Used the same booth set up to paint the chassis black with a single stage enamel last fall.

 

Looks good.

I painted my Lancer in the garage. had to cut and buff but it turned out great!

 

Painted my 57 in this dirty ass garage


Then my 61 in a different garage. Slightly more sanitary




Then, moved to a bigger shop. And built and painted my 53 there
