Event Coverage Back to the 50's 2016

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 63Biscuit, Jun 19, 2016.

  1. After about 50 miles of walking, trying to see over 12,000 traditional rods and customs, the 2016 BTT50's is now wrapped. A few teasers are below, with the full gallery here.

  2. Great gallery. Thanks. May next year. Is the still a swapmeet as well? 12k classic cars is nuts.
We enjoyed the gondalas to cheat the long walk across a few years ago.

  5. Just made it home from the show. Walked so much, I think I wore out my Chuck Taylors. Too busy trying to see every one of the 12,000 cars, I didn't even take pictures. I did take pictures of Mark Moriarity's awesome, incredible collection. He was nice enough to open his doors to a bunch of hooligans, and treated us like friends. Thanks again @Moriarity !

  7. Yeah, the swap meet is still part of the show - always on Sunday.

  8. Abe, if you and Mel are making the trip we will be there again as well.

  9. Well, that's why I put the link to our full gallery here... :)

Lots and lots of vendors - not sure how many, since they're spread out across the entire fairgrounds. Swap meet is pretty good size, and better than it has been the last few years.

I just got home this evening also, and yes the fairground is 320 acres. We walked about 8 miles then went to hang out in the shade at the car auction to cool off.
This is one of the coolest cars we ran across on the street

Okay if you say so. Way to much tech here for most HAMBers with any sense of tradition .plastic smoothster don't float my boat. Just keep walking.

I never considered a 39 Lincoln zephyr anything but iconic, especially by HAMB standards.
With the recent passing of Bill Hines, it just jumped out to me.

Perhaps a 58 chevy cast iron W-series 348 is more interesting.

Or maybe this sanitary RPU. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1466423223.946924.jpg

This is 63 biscuit's thread and I did not intend to post more than the zephyr, so one more post for badging he may have missed, and I will read along with everyone else

Actually the final total of registered cars was 11,943 the only time it was over 12,000 was in 2013. I need to go back to bed, what a weekend!

Well I'd say 2000 didn't make it I only counted 10,004 cars and that's official...My damn calves still hurt.
Others like me didn't get their cars finished enough to drive tow or drag, but splitting hairs here, way too many cars to look at in 3 days
After being satisfied I'd seen all of the cars we stopped in Albert Lee on the way home and there was a purple Ford cpe w/o fenders and I said to myself, you dumb ass you just thought you saw every car there!
I really love the road construction, I heard that the powers to be said lets do it all right now so the Super Bowl fans won't have 1 bumpy road to drive on.
Don't get me wrong I love this show and will return next year.
    Thanks for the pictures Biscuit!

Great show, 5 of us traveled up there Thursday for the weekend. Crazy traffic leaving the new south check in location in Burnsville then heading to our motel up off 35W but worth it. My 18th year there. Took the 55 T-Bid. 4th car in 18 years there. Swap meet is good but isles range from about 8 ft. to 25' Kind of hit and miss .Lots to see and do.Just when you think you seen it all something different rolls by.I also heard 12,266 on the loud speaker. Oh well ,what ever number..... Make no mistake this is the BIG one!

It would be interesting to know how many people register and then don't bring a car. I know of quite a few that have done that over the years. In the end, it hardly matters, none of us would know the difference of looking at 10,004 cars as 34toddster alluded to or 12,000. I still think it is the best show in the country.

    Let's See some more pictures....

This photo in 63Biscuit's gallery really grabbed me. Does anybody have any other photos or information on htis Lark?

  25. according to MSRA's website the final count was 11,943

yes , the road construction south of Minneapolis on I-35 was a pain for a lot of people. if you were familiar with the area there is an easy and quick bypass around it ...which i used!

  26. LOL. If you saw 10,004 on an official count, you sure as hell did better than me. :)

I know what you mean about the stress of getting things there; we almost didn't make it with our club-owned '60 Ranchero. We were surprised about the show this year - there were lots of interesting things there, where the last couple of years felt like like a rehash of more or less the same stuff.

  27. Right? How often do you see a Lark gasser? Thanks for the kudos - hopefully someone else knows more about the car!
