Very nice job. Could I trouble you for the caliper / mount & source / type? Gary

It's actually a SoCal speed shop narrow disc brake kit. Really nice kit and the rotor actually sits flush inside the 16x4.5 front rim so from the front you don't see a big rotor sticking out. Unfortunately I really regret buying these solely because it's the only obvious new piece on the car. I wish I just pieced together a drum kit. Really bugs me seeing the discs but I'm going to try to make a cover for the rotor.

  3. Very nice work - I'm building a '31 with a '53 Merc flathead and have benefited from your detailed photos. I just ordered a u-weld kit from Matt at Gear Drive - what a great guy to deal with.

Thanx for the info. I don't mind discs at all (even more if they fit inside the back half of the rims like these) as they were starting to get popular on race cars in the early 50's. Although first gen "spot" calipers were much smaller, finned calipers like these have an older school look to me, akin to Airhearts. Gary

Thanks a lot I'm glad I was able to help!

Yeah I mean I'm sure it'll be nice driving with discs. It doesn't look difficult to make some small covers to block the inside of the rotor.

I'd LOVE to have some dust shields with air scoops that looked like vintage OEM backing plates to work with these calipers, but only if they were in aluminum to keep down the added weight. Gary

Some exciting updates. Dropped the body off to get painted today and took home the freshly painted frame. Super hard to take photos of this color. It's basically UPS brown but it looks green under florescent light, brown in the sun, and black at night. Assembling the chassis back together right now and will post more pics as it comes together.

She's a roller! Brake and fuel lines are all back on. Love it. Engine and trans next up. Can't wait to hear it run.

Yeah no problem it's a setup made by SoCal that bolts directly to the inside of their 32 step boxed frame frame. I'm not exactly sure the type or model of the fuel filter though. This is the link to the part - http://www.est1946.com/so-calfuelfilter.aspx

Some updates. Moved the chassis, engine / trans, and a ton of boxes of new parts over to my uncles shop to finish the car. Still waiting for the body to be finished getting color but we can get this thing running now. Got the engine ripped apart to install a flat tappet thumper series comp cam, and installed some felpro gaskets on the oil pan and timing chain cover. This week I'll get some paint on the engine and get it ready to mate to the trans.

Nice to see an update on your project. That Tudor next to your chassis sure looks nice. Bob

Some good updates this weekend! Painted the engine factory Chevy orange, mounted it to the fresh 700r4, dropped it into the frame, and started bolting shit up. Got the aluminum corvette valve covers early 60s Weiand WCVSQ aluminum 4 barrel intake, weiand water pump, factory fuel pump, early 60s corvette aluminum thermostat housing, rebuilt early 60s QJet and some Geardrive flash chrome headers. Super excited to see this engine to come life. It's been in my head for so long and now it's right in front of me. I'm really happy I painted it orange. It pops against the chocolate brown and all of the aluminum parts. Only need a few things to get it running. Hopefully get to that next weekend. Here are some shots of where we're at right now.

  29. Question, without the engine weight on the chassis. How much space do you have between the bottom of the tie rod and the top of the bottom hairpin bar? and does that gap change with the engine weight on the chassis? I'm having an issue with my car now as I'm assembling it. Where the tie rod is lightly rubbing the top of the lower hairpin rail. Thanks. :)
