Can anyone tell me what the distance is from backing plate to backing plate on a dodge Dakota front clip?

  4. Sorry unclescooby, can't help you with the Dakota front clip question but I have got a question for you from the dim dark distant past!
I've just come across a thread back in 2012 where you posted about a 1950 (or was it?) Olds 88 (or was it?) convertible which had basically rotted just down to the frame. I'm curious about what happened to it after the thread died. I've got a '50 88 coupe which I'm 'ruggedizing' to drive around the world and the workshop manual says (perhaps unsurprisingly :)) that the convertible body had a strengthened chassis compared to the coupes and I think I might use it as a guide to strengthening mine. From what I read it involved a heavier gauge steel on the main members and an I-beam rather than a channel section Xmember but it would be useful to actually have a look at one. If you ever did get the frame out and something done with it, I'd be interested in checking it out if you know where it now is. If the car is still sitting rotting I might be interested in the frame and anything else salvagable.
    Cheers
    Erik

Here's a '50 B2B (?) I dual piped & turn signaled over the last month. Engine OH 20 years ago, about 15,000 miles since. Has factory fresh air heat, radio, chrome grille ..
I forgot what a bitch these were working under the hood - can't get my head over or under the firewall to rad. support. HPIM8393.JPG HPIM8396.JPG HPIM8398.JPG HPIM8399.JPG

Hello there, First time poster long time guest. I just picked up this 56' today. It seems very solid and its 99 percent all there. Its to early to tell what future plans are for this, other than that brush guard and hood ornament HAVE to go. Whatever the future holds for this truck it will be all MOPAR. 20160723_224313.jpg 00B0B_3l6EW3UIFRI_600x450.jpg 00Z0Z_f6jF6zLN9cB_600x450.jpg IMG_9442.jpg

  9. You got that right. It aint a MOPAR if it's not ALL MOPAR!

  10. Very cool 56 looks really solid also looking forward to seeing what your plans are for this truck

Thought I would throw my hat in the ring and post some pics of my 59 Sweptside. I recently revived it after sitting for nearly 30 years. Bought new by my Father, and I am the second owner. Trying to keep it as original as possible in the preservation. It is the 318 poly with the loadflite automatic trans and has the $59 radio option hanging from the roof and it still works. Paint is original but I lost quite a bit of it on the rear quarters in the sanding process. I think the factory used a different primer on the station wagon fenders than the truck factory, thus the difference in the way the paint weathered differently from front to back. Not sure! Original engine runs great , has 67k, and the truck is virtually rust free from living in Central Texas most of its life. It has been fun driving it again after all these years and reliving some childhood memories!!

Just a little update. Licensed in June, 2021.
Can't post a side view, off topic wheels.
Went with a 318 on the Dakota 4x4 chassis. We've got about 500 miles on it, getting the bugs worked out, its going to be a great driver.. Body and paint to come later. Gene
