bschwoeble, bunch of cool pics. The red 57 at the top of the page is Sam Gianino when he was sponsored by Standard Auto Supply. The date is probably 1969. Gianino won his class with this car at Indy in 67 in CM/SP and also won class D/G in 68 as well as street eliminator. In 69 he alternated between running gas and altered and here he was running D/A. I seem to remember that he put the altered stickers he had on the rear quarter panel earlier in 69. He surprised me one day in 69 when he tried qualifying at Detroit Dragway in gas and altered and he slapped a D/A sticker on the quarter. I remember he ran altered that day more than likely due to the competition. He probably made some room for more sponsor decals at Indy on the quarter behind the rear wheels. Great pictures thanks.
Sorry for the fuzzy picture. I know this was Lions, Labor Day weekend. 1966. I remember there being several Vettes running out of Bill' Garage.
Not me. That is exactly how the car looked the first time I saw it at New England Dragway. And that car was the reason I bought my first 57 Corvette in 1971 as well as the current 57 I am building. Made a huge impression, to say the least. Thanks for posting.
I miss the Modified Production day's. The R.P..M.'s come up and they would drop the clutch!!!!!! Watching them run was really a thrill. Jimbo
Thanks Baron, but does not every one drive like that?? That video is from 2009, I have made two major up grades to the engine since then. It now runs 7500 to 8000. Still way below my Street/Strip 350 gasser engine I ran from 69 to 85 when I put two rods through the cam shaft shifting at 11,000 rpm. I guessed I pushed it too far ? My current engine still has not gone as fast as that engine did in 1970. But I hope to beat that this year. Picture below of the 350 engine, TR-1 manifold, two 770 carbs, 4 lobe Mallory distributor and the cam spec's. Manifold and carbs now are on Butch's 61. Jim You like high RPM's , check the video below, that is what they sound like, No exhaust type sound. I miss it and doing the Dry Hops at E-Town.
