Maybe Paul or goatroper can comment on this, I've heard that the '55-up main caps/webs are heavier than '54-earlier. True? or myth?

My 1960 394 is becoming worn out. I have found a 1962 394. It is missing the timing cover/ water pump housing and the oil pan. Can I use those parts from my block for the swap?

  5. What companies make adapters so I can run a newer auto trans?

  6. Check with Tony. I know he has a great set up for later tranny choices.

The ones I've seen are adapters that require you to cut the bellhousing area of the transmission off back to the input shaft flange, using those bolts to mount the new adapter. Can't remember who makes it though, sorry.

Our Olds assemblies bolt in without having to hack the Trans tunnel out of your car as well as Wasting interior space...... A New bell ,flywheel and torque convertor allows it to bolt up direct as simple as a sbc

image.jpg image.jpg This seems to be a good place to ask this question.. what the hell is this for? I'm trying to find my oil pressure location but just wondering what this is? It's a tube coming out of the top and back of the block near the distributor. The tube seems to go into the block a bit.. I have seen this have a fitting and not a tube on other motors but just can't find any info on this... any info would be awesome! Thanks!

Connects to a road draft tube, pre PCV stuff the let the crank case breathe. You'll find a spot for an oil pressure line on your oil filter adapter.

I'm getting ready to replace my 303 cam brgs. The oil holes on my new ones are .015 smaller than stock. Do I drill them to the stock size or leave them. Does a smaller hole create higher oil pressure and a larger hole create more volume? Also any other tips will be helpful thanks.

My head is spinning. My antique Hilborn FI unit came off a 368ci Merc block, I know this cause I yanked in off myself along with a Vertex Mag with distr drive fuel pump and roller lifters. All old school stuff. Here's the rub: The Hilborn casting #'s are 303-0-8. Olds and Mopar both made 303ci engines back then. How do I know what motor this was really made for or was it just a generic casting for all of them? I haven't seen one picture of an Olds or Mopar wearing a Hilborn FI unit from 50-57. I have seen a 368 Lincoln/Merc with one, i.e. the infamous Battlebird series. The last two, #98 and #99 had them. Anyone have ideas?

Plug your PCV valve in to the road draft tube.

I know it may be buried somewhere in the middle of this thread as I seem to remember seeing it somewhere. Did Felpro ever make steel exhaust port gaskets for the 324? I have 2 nos sets for a 303 but I can't seem to find any square port ones. Ross Racing makes some very nice composite ones which I just bought. Their's seem to be made for 371 ports but should work fine on the smaller #10 heads. Just curious if anyone has ever seen metal 324 ones or has a part number.

They must have made them. I have a box from a gasket set purchased in 1992 that came with a 56 parts car. They were in that box for sure, for 324 size. I can look to see if it is Felpro brand box and if the part number is on it, but it would be a overhaul set number, not for the exhaust.
