That last one belonged To Virgil Cates out of Ohio and would run as a gasser and as an altered. When he ran as an altered he would remove the front end.

It should be Virgil Cates, Cates Speed Shop. He ran out of Ohio and I think that he was a National Record Holder.

Here is a picture that I found on another Hamb thread to keep things moving. This one has a lot of history and still survives today.

That is one hell of a shot of a real beauty. And from the cars in the background it's an original not a repop

Yes this is a vintage picture of the Brasher and Cummings or BC car (early on it was yellow) It later became the Brasher Cummings and Rose car and then belonged to Jim Tipper and was put on its roof in a drag racing accident and was repaired and restored to the purple Brasher and Cummings version and sold.

Feel free to correct me if I am a little off on the history.

I believe that these pictures are in chronological order.

Think I'm right in saying that when Jim had the accident he had renamed the car

Yes I believe that you are right about that. There is footage of the car, Jim Tipper and the wreck in the Vintage Gasser footage on DVD by the Jackson Brothers. There are plenty of vintage gassers on the DVD filmed in California in the 1960s and is one of my favorites inspite of the wreck. The DVD is called the Gasser Files I and II

Your car has some very cool history too. Can you post some pictures of the different versions of it and tell us about its history.

Did you mean the Barnes Brothers of northern Ohio? If so, the car still exists, although the original pearl white finish has faded to an amber patina. It appears regularly at the Thompson Gasser Reunions.

Yes FRENCHTOWN FLYER that's what I meant to say. It looks like the same car to me. It is cool that it still survives. I have seen a magazine feature on it. The Barnett Brothers were from Georgia and had a 33 Willys coupe too.

I would like to see a pic of the Barnett Bros car too.

Interestingly, as I looked at the pic of them at Edgewater I remembered that before they had the '33 Willys they raced a blue '55 Chevy gasser, Lettered Barnes and Sperry. Quite the coincidence. That car also still exists - converted to a street rod.

Fans of theirs may enjoy reading what I wrote when I was building mine:

    Thanks.
I don't know how to blow up the article. Basically, it explains that the Barnes Brothers were my childhood next door neighbors and hearing them test it across the two-lane blacktop that ran across our valley inspired me to build mine many years later. An awesome sound I can still hear. In some ways it shaped my life and inspired me to become an automotive engineer and life long drag racer.
