Remember? Not at my age. LOL But in a Les Welch photo I have of it it was running the AHRA class of HR-1. That picture posted was mine, and in a higher resolution photo you can see that it has a lump on the hood.
Sorry about the front wheels??? I have seen '30's, '40's and '50's cars on this site with billet parts, MSD ignitions, Demon carbs, chrome brake boosters, etc., etc., etc. Unless these people have a time machine their not letting anyone know about. I think a '60's stocker, raced in the '70's with '70's front wheels fits here much better. Especially on this thread. Just my one and a half cents. Gene.
I've skimmed 300 of the 400+ pages here. I'm really digging the photos and some of the reading. Too bad there are so many missing photos, making for lots of holes in the overall story. The photos make me remember the cars parked on the edges of gas stations, muffler shops, alignment shops, and auto-parts stores, when I was a kid. I was drawn to those alphabet, cartoon, art & sticker loaded cars.. I knew they raced, but I couldn't get my dad to take me to a dragstrip to see them in action and get a better understanding. Can anybody recommend a book or website that does a really good job of bringing the 60's drag races to life and explains what's really going on with the cars, drivers, equipment choices, set-ups, etc? One nice surprise for me (since I'm a tri-five fan) is the number of tri-fives that seemed to be almost the car of choice for a number of the classes. Looking forward to more photos and info. I don't know if it's still available, but I have a copy of Larry Davis' book "Super Stock, drag racing the family sedan". If you like this thread, you'll love the book. His "Gasser Wars" book is a cult favorite but I know it has been out of print for years and used copies go for $50 +. Doug Boyce has some great books too, and maybe he'll give you rundown on them.

The John Dianna 56 Sedan Delivery is really what started my obsession with Deliveries. That Canadian, 56, 150 Handyman Wagon, is a car I'd like to have had in my long line of 56's. I'm on number TEN currently. The George Supinki, 56, 150 "Handyman Wagon", is actually the original Yoo Hoo Too Sedan Delivery AFTER they CONVERTED it to a Wagon. All done to fit into a more favorable class after the Hydro's got dumped from the class. I believe the same thing happened with Dianna's Delivery after it was sold. Cal Method is still a Stock Class racer to this day, along with his wife (number 2?). I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Could someone explain to me again why the N.H.R.A. did away with Junior Stock? Junior Stock was so wildly popular and had such a large following of die heart fans it just never made any sense to me why they messed around with such a good thing they had going on. Jimbo
Loud bang you did good! So many cars and drivers swapped cars and changed paint or lettering it makes my head spin. I had a picture of "Yoo Hoo" with Supinski on the side then Jessel and couldn't figure out who was what. If I didn't have my MG there would be a Jr. stocker in the garage that I could run every weekend. Pat
Jimbo 17, Junior Stock being what it was and being snuffed out like it was I think everybody who's read these 12,327 posts is wondering. Still. As these cars start to have a resurgence and guys find their old cars or take them out of mothballs after all these years it's pretty cool to watch and hear stories. There are engine builders from that era doing race engines as I type this so this is not a passing phase. And since they'll be run independently now the NHRA cannot decide on a whim to snuff them again. They're back. They're real. It's cool.These pictures guys keep posting are so great . Everytime I'm on here ( daily) I see some thing I never saw before. Thank you for that. Sorry for running on guys. I'm impassioned about the old Junior Stockers.
OK, 'Jr Stock-newbie' question, if I may... Using the following photo for an example: I've done enough reading to have some understanding of the class naming conventions and how they relate to the mfr's reported delivered weight to rated horsepower ratio, but... I'm trying to understand the 3-digit numbers (sometimes 4-digits) I sometimes see painted on the cars, and/or written or even lettered on the windows. In the example photo, I see '826' painted on the trailing edge of the quarter panel, and I also see it handwritten on the windshield. My search & reading across this entire thread for the word 'number' suggests this is a... car number? By way of analogy, is the '826' to the '56 delivery in this photo similiar in concept to Richard Petty's widely recognized '43'? Thanks in advance, Gotta56forme/Scott
