Hot Rods '35 3 Window, Damn Right it was a Good Day

I think it's cool the way you have 2 1935 fords, first a sedan then a 5 window and now a 3 window and the way that it happened it's like it was meant to be.

 

I wasnt sure i wanted to look any further when I heard this thread was "Yak free" but I did anyway. NICE!!

 

Yak free mean it was up in the Yak area? I got my roadster NW of Troy on the Yak

 

Phat Rat, the Yak thing was a joke personal about the other find I've had lately. It's a roadster thing built out of a model T, some tractor parts, and a cut down 60's Buick frame. There's a dead yak in the building. It's special... I'm in Western Montana. The '35 came out of the Bitterroot Valley.

elgringo71, I started fixating on '35-'36 stuff about 15 years ago and started picking all the low hanging fruit I could reach with my meager budget about 4 years ago. This three window is the pinnacle. I'm psyched.

 

No mummified Yaks needed this time!!

lewk, I'd seen that you were in the Missoula area. My youngest son lives a few mi. west of Kalispell, so I get out there at least once every year.

I'm finally starting to regret selling my DONE '36 3-window about 12 years ago. It was "too cramped", and the built 8CM broke a few driveline parts. Live and learn.

 

Where in MT did you find it? I am a Montana native and I'd like to know how close I was!

The car was living about 30 miles south of Missoula. I've got it tucked away and I'm knee deep in a parts sort right now. Once that's all settled I can get back to building my chassis. I'm itching to move forward. I'm on the fence about fixing the top where it was hacked out, filling it, or filling and chopping. I'll spend more time staring at it and the answer will come.

 

Looking forward to seeing how this goes!

 

I vote fix the top/ no chop, because I love the roof line like it is. Perfect proportion, not like some earlier too-tall Fords.

 

My vote is to fill the top with solid steel, no chop. As BFC said, the stock proportions are great.

No updates yet. I've been pecking away at the chassis that's going under it and reshuffling the pile. Plus my wife was just finishing her masters so I 've all hands on deck with the kids. I'll get some new pics up in the next couple weeks.

So it's creeping up on a year since I brought home the 3 window. How about an update? First I'll get caught up to the point in the '35 Ford project to where I got the car, then I'll go from there. I'd been scooping up all the '35-'36 stuff I could afford for a while. I drug all this (and more) home:






The frame had been hit and was unhappy:




So I tore it apart and straightened it:





And started to reassemble:







This is around the time I got the 3 Window. I am overrun:

I started riveting the frame back together with a '37 and later style steering mount:







And started test fitting parts:







Its a tight fit. That rams horn and the '35 pedals are a no go. I had to do a lot of pig surgery to get that shifter in.






Things are coming together:




I already had a 283 and a T10. I scored another free 283 out of a boat but it was toast. Someone hadn't winterized it and the block was ruined. At least I got a flywheel from it. I just scored a 327 with 461s on it last week. I think its a winner but I haven't torn it down all the way.

You need a 67-72 chevy pu drivers side rams horn to clear the steering box.
