Hot Rods Tired of homogenized hotrods

You work on the heavy money cars.....have you ever seen a sidemount tire in that area of a fender? I can't recall one sitting on the fender, not in a well....in that artillery-wheel era

I vaguely recall some pics of one car that had a strange gap between the fender tail and front of runningboard, but don't recall how the sidemount fit. Alsancle would know, but he is not on here much.

Highlander...This whole scene could have been staged with some pretty special autos. I have enlarged what I could find and adjusted contrast a little.


I see the left hand drive...driver and perhaps his dog albeit it is a little ghost like much like a pic posted in 'days gone by' As for the car maybe a Lincoln Coach-built (wild ride looks RHD with New York plates)...I found this below to be the closest...in my search around.

Looking at the blow-up that Stogy posted, I'm not sure it is a trafficator. The plate on the aero-engined Mercedes is either 1938 or 1940. I can't make it out.

We have a winner. Not as big a car as I thought, couldn't get through the cobwebs of my brain, but Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway barely escaped the local law ambush in the movie "Bonnie and Clyde", having used one as a getaway car. 1933 Hupmobile Model K Victoria:



The squarish rear fender, suicide doors, "false hood" design, abrupt fender and short splash apron. I've seen these before and they're bigger than a Ford but smaller than what I was thinking.

Okay that is awesome! I like it. It would prefer seeing a little flat paint and some stone chips in the paint from hard use, but other the that they knocked it out of the park.

 

Volvobrynk I like yourself like the slightly to much used stuff or put another way ruff around the edges. Certainly am wowed and appreciative of the creative genius by these craftsmen and craftswomen in the business of creative automobile both small and larger scale.

Heres a link to the shop itself. Several rides from this creative establishment have graced this thread and site as well. They do great things with a respecting of the roots. Just another accomplished shop feeding our lust for hotrod.

Here's a photo I took at the 2011 GNRS of the Brooklands Special, Though really well done, the car didn't appeal much to me. I guess I actually prefer "Homogenized" hotrods.

I'm glad that some of you guys are digging what we are doing at Hollywood Hot Rods.

And, don't worry, I can assure you that the Brooklands Special is no trailer queen. It sees some miles.

That car, along with the other we build are built to drive. They are cars for gods sake. They aren't sculptures. If you build a car or have one built, and you don't drive it, you're doing something wrong.

I'm glad to see that this thread made a bit of a turn from the beginning. There are a lot of examples of cars here that are a bit different AND cool.

 

Is this a 34 Ford roadster with a 32 - 34 Ford truck grill? Or am I wrong?

 

This car compliments the essence of the thread. It caught my eye in my search that day. Thanks for chiming in cretin. The car scene has many elements to it and this thread is a great vehicle for exposure to those that appreciate it. Vehicle interests are varied and pleasing the masses is not what its about. You put your knowledge and expertise and your customers together and creativity flows from there...Good on you and your crew. The show continues.

 

I believe it is a 33 with a 33 pickup grill. 33 fords had curved side hood louvers and a curved profile grille where as 34 was straight louvers and straight profile grill.
There are other subtle differences but that is where I look.

I couldn't agree more, about the waste in cars not being used, ain't no proper car!

I would like to see so speed pics of the car on the go, that would be awesome.
So we have employees from HHR, ASS m, Tardel, the Norwegian kid at the old Barris shop and we got a tap on some of the best builds around the world. This is the best place ever!

Between this thread, the '50 era perfect thread, the HRP garage (except the red one, sorry Danny, but I like the story) and the few survivor threads I follow there is very few threads with new builds that really get me of my seat!! And I respect craftmanship a lot, even on cars I don't like.

But I'm no hater!
I prefer '50s style over '60s,
gassers over alters,
I prefer gow jobs/cut downs over speedsters, but speedster over T buckets ,
2 doors over coupes, coupes over 4 doors,
era perfect over traditional,
muscle cars over street rods,
Nailheads over SBC, SBC over SBF, FEDs over REDs,
Legs over tits, red heads over blond and old over new!
And if you don't agree, I will never hate for it.
But if you prefer houses over cars, I have no reason to talk to you, but I still don't hate.
There is room for everybody!

It's an American car so I guess in America. None over here, they were never sold here.

 

This is a low riding T...I think its a T...looks perhaps from over the pond and may be a new old looking pic...thoughts?​

The interesting thing about where I live is nobody has ever seen a hot rod before, 99.999% of people who see my car think it is a Jeep, or something similar, they have no concept of what is traditional or otherwise.

It is just a shiny weird thing, with a big motor, as far as they are concerned.
