Hot Rods WHAT'S THIS BARN FIND DEATH MACHINE BUILT OUT OF?

My buddy found this thing in a barn this weekend. It isn't traditional but some of the chunks are. I think I see a nailhead and a cut down 26-27 T sedan... What else am I looking at? There's supposed to be a mummified yak in that barn too.

 

Think you got it right. Don't know about that funky frame though. The nailhead, cowl and doors are worth saving. I hear mummified Yaks are going for big bucks on Ebay.

Volarae frame maybe? Rear fenders look like 55 gallon drums cut in half. Bet its scarry to drive

 

I would rather have seen the mummified Yak...

 

Are those the yak horns in the background?

 

Clown car

 

Looks like it used to be a T coupe, maybe 25 or so? Frame looks like 55-64 Chevy. I would guess about a 60. Pic of the rear frame/suspension would be interesting.
Edit Maybe the engine is original to the frame? Anybody a expert on Buick frames? Maybe a 57?

 

I just went to look at a "1930 Roadster" that was built along the same lines. 55 gallon drum fenders, a narrowed 49-50 Ford truck frame, iron pipe crossmembers. Every bracket was torched out and not ground at all, just welded on. To their credit, the thing showed signs of having been driven - a lot. I am just amazed at the ingenuity and just plain determination some people have when they decide they want a hot rod.
Someone put a bunch of work into that poor old thing..............

 

That thing makes me wanna yak! It may be worth more parted out, don't think there's a big market for clown cars.
The Nailhead is attractive.

Funny how I was thinking about "yak" even BEFORE I read the post...

The nailhead and the sheet metal might bring something, but the owner should pay your buddy to haul away that abortion of steel and technology.

Musta been a hoot to bomb around, don't think suspension worked much..

 

Volares didn't have frames.Unibody with a bolt in front K member. I must have done a dozen F-100 conversions with them

 

Not a 58-64 Chevy frame, clearly no X in the center and it doesn't appear that clean frame mods were their strong suit either, my guess is it's a 65-66 Buick frame with the trans mated to the rearend with a tiny driveshaft, I highly doubt they went through the work of converting from torque tube or shortening a torque tube. I'd bet if you identified the engine, you'd also be identifying the frame.

The body looks like a late T Tudor with the door tops cut off and the rear panel pushed forward to make an RPU. Not the best job but not the worst either. The engine/trans/rear axle and the body tub with all the other shit cut off of it could be a neat start on a low budget rod if it could be had under a grand, and hopefully the motor isn't froze. Maybe it's titled too, that'd be a bonus.

 

It was shortened from a '26-27 T Tudor coach. I'm guessing the 'pickup bed' was made from the roof.

 

Hope nobody washes it.....it'd be shame to lose that yak patina...

 

That pickup bed has 'marker' lights on the side of the pickup bed....safety first!!! ....that frame really dips down below the running boards too...just a totally funky setup!

 

'66 Buick service manual chassis picture, look at the step up to the control arms and then back down, also the radiator positioning and the shape of the upper control arms themselves. I think this thing was built on a complete Buick frame, engine unmoved, original radiator and everything. Just shortened a ton.

 

I think Squabs on to something.

 

Could make a cool r## rod.
