Ryan, thanks for posting a great build thread - shame is got sidetracked by the anti-SBC crowd and I do agree with you about craft beers - bluuuurckkk!!! Mrs DB and I visited your country last year - for a 2 month, 14500 mile road trip visiting the last of your 50 states we hadn't already been to, and I really enjoyed the Blue Moon with a huge chunk of orange in it - I've even taken up drinking my cloudy white wheat beers here in Australia the same way. A number of my friends think I'm quite strange now, but WE know. I think your choice of drivetrain is a sound one to achieve exactly what you set out to build - shame you won't have much of a chance to get to daily drive it for a while. Luck has something to do with it. The only reason I have the money is that my dad saved every possible penny in life. I've had a poor track record holding onto cash so far. By his example, I hope to keep this coupe as long as possible.
The kids are out playing in the woods, the ladies are drinking wine, and Keith and I are working on the coupe... I have proof by way of an experimental time lapse video: Gonna fire the motor here in a bit... I'll come with video evidence of that as well...

Well yeah... But in my defense, Keith had me doing the dirty work - removing the rubber from the running boards, painting the fan blade, painting the radiator support rods, etc... Oh... and at the end there... that was mary coming out to tell us dinner was ready. Norman Rockwell up in this motha... I ran out of camera battery, but eventually I'm gonna do a cool time lapse...

This one is far from done... Still have details and an interior to do... But, next? Who knows... Next on the list for Keith is the Mearns coupe... But I think we wanna do more of these side projects for sure. The key is finding cars with bodies as nice as this one and that's hard to do.
Never was much of a fan of 28-29 coupes. I always preferred the look of 30-31, but this one certainly has the look. Nice build and great motor. Traditional since 1955, when they replaced everything else. Build it your way, you can't please everyone anyway. Nice work guys.
Ryan, maybe I missed it, but what trans are you guys using? I know there was talk of a t5 but that was back before the great "crate engine debate."
Tech question: Is this a road draft tube engine? I've been scheming to do 3x2's on my sbc, but it's a post 68 block. I'd like to do more than just breathers and I don't want to cut my vette valve covers for breathers or PCV. I was thinking Rochester 2g's but those 97's are the bees knees. Just curious if the new 97's have vacuum ports for a PCV or vacuum advance. Thanks.
Just cut those Vette covers!! As soon as I find a nice looking pair of breathers I’m milling and drilling the ones for my 327. Nothing more traditional hot rod than that.
How do you have the 3x2's setup to run. I am trying to tune my very similar setup? I am also running 3- 97's with straight linkage on a built 327. Thanks.
