Message_1457208785478.jpg Now that the bones are cut and tacked i need some serious brackets to hold them. Im a fan of the early drag/gasser look with LONG ladder bars. So i decided the ladder bars should come all the way up and meet the bones. Hey i could attach them to the same bracket too. Ok here goes nothing

Im using 3/16" 4130 chromoly plate. I added a strip on the front and back for the tie rod taper holes so theres enough depth to be safe. The taper holes are 9/16 deep. Also im building in lots of adjustment just incase. What the heck its just extra holes ; ) Message_1457389031836.jpg

20160317_165404.jpg I added some 3/8-16 hardened nuts on the inside of the plate to hold a crossmember. That will keep everything sturdy and tie both sides together

Message_1458516842563.jpg Thats better. No more flopping bones. All the holes for the ladder bars 24 of them were drilled undersize. Then hand reamed for a perfect fit. You dont want any slop here

Chucky i think i would look for a different brake kit with less offset or change to wheels with more backspacing before i cut my axle to narrow it. Maybe post it up on the board here for suggestions.

  17. 4130 should not be mig welded. Just a heads up.

It can be provided Cabbage is using ER80S2 and is using the proper technique. The problem with MIG over TIG in 4130 is the cold start and the embrittlement problems it can create.

I was gonna' aks why he chose 4130, other than it welds and cuts nice!
Ain't it supposed to have some normalizing / stress relieving action done to it after welding, ( Mig or Tig)?

Message_1459274175379.jpg I got a big box from Texas today. Brian Bass built me a set of his awesome self energizing brakes for the vicky gasser. His brakes work as good as they look and they look damn good! This will add some old school class up front and hopefully slow the mighty hemi

Thanks Chuck! Im using 4130 because its stronger and i dont want shit breaking. All the structural welds are TIG also. Thanks for the comments guys its moving along pretty good. Rear suspension is next! STAY TUNED....
