Since I never posted a pic in my intro I figured I'd post a few now that I've finally got the wheels and tires put on my car. I bought this bel air three years ago and immediately lowered it/put disc brakes on it. Unfortunately that meant my stock 14's would no longer fit, I bought a set of 15's, paint, tires and port a walls immediately after but it took me a full three years to paint them. Lazy, I know.

And I actually found a set of 64 model dog dish caps at a local antique shop so I polished them up and put them on after driving around on the steelies for a day or so.

    Hope you like it

  4. I had dog dish caps on my 62 Impala, 6/p-slide - converted it to a qb block 409/409, 4-speed, the correct dual quads, exhaust, drum brakes. When my wife went cruising with me in that car she always asked if she would need her neck brace! I had to sit on an old army blanket to reach the pedals - I am only 5'3!

Love your car, man ... brings back many, many great memories ....

Nice car. I've been watching for a 62'. How did you lower it? Sam

The best way to lower is to use drop spindles as they don't change the steering geometry like shortening springs do. My 64 Biscayne IMG_0812.JPG has 2" drop spindles and short coils in the back.

    Thanks all!

I wasn't looking for this car but I fell for it after seeing it at a local powersports dealership (went to go buy a carb rebuild kit and left with a 62 bel air..). It's been one of the best old cars I've ever owned, can't get myself to part with it.

I lowered it with drop spindles and lowering springs. The front springs are CPP lowering springs and I cut the rears. I also had to put an adjustable panhard bar in it when I lowered it. Rides great but I will say when I have it loaded down the rear gets low.

That Chevy'd turn my head...LOVE the "inchwalls"...
"Poverty" caps? Another example of 'slang of late'...
I hated the term "Baby Moons'. R&C 'Little Pages' coined them 'Baldies'.
The police dep't called them 'stolen trailer caps'. (some guys got 'em for free!)

Sorry, dog dish:D. My neighbor always called them that growing up, so that's what I call them. No idea what people used to call them, the car was over 40 years old by the time I got my license.

A dark green pinstripe or two on your wheel would really set it off. :)

Car looks outstanding! How wide are the wheels you have on it? What back space do you have front to rear different? Joe

Thanks! Wheels are 15x7 all around, and I'm not sure of the BS..whatever would have come stock on a mid 80's Caprice (which is what they came off of).

  25. I ran 15x8s out back and 7s in the front but it all depends on backspacing and ride height ....
