Very cool and the tram rail system you took the time to make and use certainly paid for it self. Absolutely brilliant idea Wade. I'm enjoying following along on this build as you post updates.

 

A little off topic, but an explanation of my lack of progress at the on topic car. We got back from a friend, a 3D printed pattern for a twin down draft intake manifold that my son designed for the Pinto engine in his project car. We will tidy the pattern then send it to the foundry to be ceramic coated, fired (which melts away the printed pattern) then cast in aluminum.
I have a similar manifold in steel that is on a 1600 kent engine in my mk1 Escort. I fabbed it from exhaust bends etc 20 years ago. If his is a success we will do one in aluminum for mine

 

Damn that's cool, it just amazes me what can be done now days. That's a good looking manifold.

Sounds like the young man takes after his Dad in the " thinking outside the box " when it comes to building Hot Rod stuff. Is the manifold going to have water running through it two to help when cold ?

Having another look at the thing, I wonder if what I think is for water is more to balance the fuel as I noticed that the hole goes right through into the inlet.

 

The hole in question is a dual purpose thing. One is to act as a balance tube between the plenums, also it will be a vacuum take of point for the brakes and PCV. We will weld in a piece of tube after casting is completed. It is a lot easier to do this, than to try and include it in the pattern.
There is no water jackets, just a boss between the two banks for a water take off point for the heater etc. I have no water jacket on my one and where we are it doesn't get cold enough to worry about carb preheat. 10 deg C in the winter and 30 deg C in the summer.

Yeah, the so called winterless north aye, where it rains cats and dogs a lot. Oh and if in Kaitaia, rope yourself down as it is always blowing a gale. Nah, just having you on Wade as I spend several years as a sales rep up in Northland and absolutely love Whangarei as a place to live. Thanks for the explanation on the manifold as after I studied it some more I sort of worked out that was the case. When I lived in Invercargill I had to run water from the engine through my Weber inlet manifold to get the car to perform but then I had a cardboard panel blocking 75% of the radiator also so the engine would get up to running temp throughout most of the year. The difference from one end of NZ to the other.

Your intake manifold is somewhat similar to the dual carb intake I fabbed for my champ car. Mine uses Healy SU carbs though with a balance tube.

I love your country by the way. I'd move there if ever I left USA.

 

Wade, just thinking about you hooking up the PCV and Brake Booster to the balance tube, I feel the Brake booster vacuum will be impaired by the lowering of the vacuum by the PCV System. Just thinking. JW

I hear that there isn't much of a vacuum takeoff with twin carbs.
Any truth in that.

I'm doing a 2.0 Pinto motor myself at the moment.

 

Now that is a true HOTRODDER can't find a manifold MAKE YOUR OWN that is what Hot rodding used to be.

I must apologize for my recent disappearance. Progress has ground to a complete halt on the coupe and is not likely to pick up any time soon. My priorities have shifted.
My father has been building a boat for the last 26 years and it has been a part of our family since 1979 when the project began. I grew up sailing aboard an identical vessel and loved every day of it.

Dad passed away in February this year after a period of illness. This makes the fact that the boat was close to 98% complete that much harder to deal with. Dad was 74 and knew he was unlikely to be able to sail on the boat when finished anyway due to being very sensitive to the sun.

I along with my sister and our respective young families are working together to be ready to launch next summer (December).
Long story short......hot rods will wait while I go sailing with my kids!
The picture is of the boat I used to sail on as a teenager, it is identical to the one we are finishing now.

 

There's no problem. You have your priority's straight.
Enjoy the time with your kids and create great memories.

 

Sometimes priorities shift and life takes a different path. Between health events and other things our race car has been on hold for far too long, but when the time is right, things will happen. Family comes first. Beautiful boat there. Keep us posted on your adventures.

 

Well you certainly have the skills to complete your fathers dream! You have made a good priority choice. We that are subscribed to your build will look forward to fallowing your build when you get back to it.

 

Sorry of your Dads passing Wade, these happening are the hardest we have to deal with in life. To build a copy of the one above shows he was very talented and I trust this is where some of your talents that I have seen came from. Look forward to seeing this get finished and sailed. Sorry about your Dad's passing but it is great that you and your sister and families are going to finish fitting it out and sail it. Do you have a blog or forum someplace where you will be chronicling that work?

Hi Wade.Sorry to hear of the loss of your Father.Lost my Mother and Father about a year apart in 93 and 94.Mom was 88,and Dad was 98.That is a great tribute to your Father.

Now we know where your creativity comes from.

I have an Uncle in his eighties who builds boats, and he recently completed a restoration on a canoe my Dad built.

I'll keep my eye open for updates here, when you get the time to get back on it.

I dropped the coupe down off the bench today and pushed it in the corner. I need the bench for welding the chassis on my cousins sons T bucket next weekend.
I have wheels and tires on the front that are about 2 inches too small. But other than that the suspension is at correct ride height!!!!!!
