Tiny update after looong break...

Removed few mouldings from right rear fender and started to strip paint. Since right door had dent on the lower part so it was almost clear that rear quarter has also dents. So there was and all the repair was done with tons of bondo. I think that I have to buy repair panel for it because dent is pretty nasty. Best part is that there's only surface rust...

Right rear fender is now clear from paint. Started to strip left side also. Left quarter have some rust issues in typical places and there's few pathces already. Back to work I gooooo....

Right/Left rear fenders are now clear from old paint. Today I had some time to work with roof and that's now also bare steel. Borrowed some tools from work that I could get few dents straightened from both fender.

Next I have to pop out the windshield and remove interior once again.

I know that it's not for wagon but is the wheelwell area same in 2D sedans? I'm going to use only part of it.

 

I answer my question myself that wheelwell is same with sedans.

Tiny update... Yesterday I started to work with tailgate again. Took both frames to made one good out of them. Grinded about 5 inches from better tailgate and welded it to original tailgate. Frame is now ready for sandblast and paint.

 

Nice to see some progress with the Comet and looks like you found a solution for the tail gate issues.Keep up the good work!

 

Looks like a good start on the tailgate graft. For the most part it seems to be a necessity for a long roof build

Thanks! Yep, almost with every wagon it's same thing but this is baddest tailgate that I have ever fixed.

 

Tonight I had time to play with tail lights so I started to recessing them a little bit. First pic is stock and second is recessed. I didn't weld it yet just trying to figure how deep I want them to be.

 

it looks good so far, nice touch.

 

I have to take my welding gas bottle to 10 year inspection so there won't be any updates for a while but I did something at this weekend.

I cutted a slice of sheet metal and started to fabricate a bucket for a right side tail light. Since the bottom of the tail light is far from straight I used old cutted piece as a bottom of the bucket to get a right fitment for the light. Stock lights aren't easiest lights to recess...

Been kind of lazy lately with updates in here but here is something small to update. Both tail lights are now recessed so that's done so far. Hood had lots of pinholes on front so I fabricated a new "lip" from sheet metal. Left side is now ready. Since it must be fixed I can also shave that seam from hood to get nicer look.

 

Nice touch on the hood repair, eliminating the seam really cleans it up.

Yeah, no updates all year. It's been a year from hell to me so build is bit frozen at the moment. Divorce, had to sell house and all that shit... But I still have this car and I'm going to get back on track next year. Stay tuned folks!

After a looooong break I found my motivation somewhere and I'm now working with this again. So here is a small update...

I had some time today to sandblast front fenders from inside and shot reaction primer on them.

Good to see your back at it, hopefully things are settling down bit for you.

 

Things are actually quite nice now so this project is rollin again.

Today here was sunny day so I decided to sandblast hood and tailgate inner skin. I shot also reaction primer on them. I'm doing this all at my work because my current garage isn't ready yet and so there's no heating at all.

I'll do some off topic here but I have been working with few other things before I started to work with wagon again. I fooled around with my bike and result was this.

Bought also a new open face helmet which was flat black and I painted that also. Should be cool enough for racing.

Time flies and so did my motivation... After a nine months break I finally started to build this again. I did some prep work for hood and front fenders. Now those are primered and ready for blocking. This all took only few hours but damn it was hard to get back on to it.
