Damn, all of a sudden the thread jumped to one I previously posted...wtf?

    anyway:

    Cagle-Callihan.jpg
Cagle & Callahan, Riverside, around '59. Gary Cagle was still running a chain drive when this photo was taken, and the chain departed off the starting line, fortunately passing between two spectators. Chain guards would follow...then Gilmer drives

    img231.jpg
J.E. Riley Construction special, with Doug Hartlett's blown Chrysler, Calvin Rice at the helm. Buddy Rice, who won the Indy 500 a few years ago, was Calvin's nephew...This car won the '55 NHRA nationals, but with Melvin Dodd's flathead after the Chrysler expired at Great Bend.

    GrecoClark.jpg
Greico & Clark, Olds powered gas roadster at Bakersfield, Hank Clark drove

    jpb-rnc-june-1954-034.jpg
Don Yates in the Mikkleson brothers car.

    Millwinders3.JPG
Millwinders at Paradise Mesa, maybe '52...They ran a fuel Ardun owned by Jack Ewell, who also drove. Notice Frank "Ike" Iacono's GMC powered '34 in the background.

  9. I have one more mystery dragster for y'all I need help with before I wrap up my thread,Gary Essman in the next week . I can't make out the name very well in the pic on the dragster. Wouldn't it be great if one of the old timers could claim the child on the car .[IMG]

    Michelle,
the car is the Gotelli Speed Shop entry which at the time was driven by Kenny Safford.

Caption says a lot...the A Vicky was in HRM, Desoto powered, I think....ID? Marty?

    3708024.jpg
Magwinder, Jack Chrisman in the seat...Kent Fuller welded it from magnesium tubing, but performance was never there...it went from gas Chrysler to gas Pontiac, its last version is in the Garlits Museum....from the George Klass collection

    9899972.jpg
Chrisman and Cannon, Art welded this twin up, with dual rear ends...too heavy to be competitive, though...from this and the above picture, innovation was common in drag racing's early days

Back in simpler days when we built stuff ourselves...I remember needing an injector scoop, went to roofing shop, bought a length of rain gutter, and built a scoop out of it...looked terrible but for $2.00...
