Vintage shots from days gone by!

If I remember correctly Chrysler hardtops were available as early as 1957 or 58, but only as 4-doors and only came in the Plymouth Belvedere/ Dodge Custom Royal/DeSoto Firesweep trim levels.

 

Could be a Ford so I think it qualifies, and the story about the B 17 is a great article.

 

That plane probably is not a Ford. All the Fords had corrogated

 

Sorry for the mis print. All Fords that I knew were called tin goose, because of the exterior metal that was corrugated. That one looks to smooth for a Ford. I road rheum several times at Sandusky Air port to the 5 Islands out in Lake Erie. What a RIDE. Iceman

 

And I think Fords were TRI-motors, at least all I have seen are.

 

Not an airplane

The plane is an American-built Fokker F10, built in about 1927, an enlarged version of the FVII. One of 65 built and Western Air Express is quoted as the 'launch customer'. Powered by three P&W Wasps making 420 hp each. Western eventually became part of Delta.

 

Just a small addition....the 1956 Chrysler Imperial was the first year for a Chrysler production four door hardtop. It was called the Southampton Sedan, but was truly a four door hardtop.

 

To all those that are whining about airplanes have you ever listened to those motors at idle,they sound just like a full race motor so I think they can be classified as a hotrod for the sky. The next time you come across a documentary show on WWII and you see the planes on the carrier about ready to take off and you will hear it.

 

Jeff, those are awesome, no doubt, but let's keep the HAMB the HAMB and not Historic Aircraft.

If it was not for the aviation industry we would not have some parts for out hotrods like roller lifters and rocker arms that were designed back in the 20s so vintage aircraft has things in common with our cars,come to our air force museum and look at the cutaway engines and you will see that and with that its my last comment about aircraft.

 

Maybe you should listen to the "whine". Keep posting photos with no auto content and he will kill this thread. He'll shut it down. The warning was already given more.

This picture looks to have been taken in the early 50' except for the advertising on the trolley.

 

Judging by the EH Holden in the background it has to be at least 1963.

…. guess we see Bill here, what with after having just bought this buggy, Johnny Law explaining that all though the initial stop was for exhibition driving, the multiple write-up ticket set includes also citations for no fenders, no hood, no mirrors no seat belts, no rear license plate light or lack of dual tail lights as well. So Bill is thinking that perhaps he should of just bought the new 409 instead of this open wheel barrel death trap ….
