Hot Rods Quick Change, Quickchange

I do not have a picture off the wheel. It was used on sprinters and some late models
in the sixties It is a wide five with an oval looking spoke emerging from between the
lug nut area. Hard to describe but are seen on some vintage racers etc.
Cool looking wheel I think.

 

Trust me, I have plenty of fodder lined up. Only thing with a quickie is the lakester, no need for small bells there.

 

I don't think you are describing the wheel but the hub the wheel bolted to..

That would put us at 40 pcs. I better find out how many guys will actually pop for a set.

 

What is the price of the new side plates? Do you have any Champ cases for sale? Are your plates 11 or 12 bolt or both?

I sent you the form letter for all the guys that have shown interest. I will have to check on what I have for center sections. I'm sure I have some 12 bolt mag centers. all have cracks or repairs. I don't know what else I might have.

You may be correct, although I will see if I can find a shot of them that may show the wheels clearly.

Sure, especially if the Ring & Pinion are still good. I don't know what the live axle is worth but they are pricey when purchased new.
Of course, you could give it to wrenchbender and he can do it

Just wondering about converting it to the axle tubes with the grand national style ends for the wide 5 hubs and a locker diff.

 

It can all work. You need side plates, differential, axle tubes w/ snouts and axles. I can help.

 

I have a live axle like that but it has a split lower shaft that shifts it in and out. Is it usable?

Yes you can do one of two things change the lower shaft or just lock the shifter in with a lock plate I done that on the halibrand that I run in our land speed car

Seriously, I wouldn't hesitate to put 800+ HP through one. But, I would be careful in drag racing with one. With an automatic, where you can preload the driveline, no problem. With a clutch, the shock load will eventually fatigue something. The V8 units were used extensively in the 60's in dragsters. These 3/4 ton units have to be at least twice as strong.
Tommy Ivo put two Buicks through one. Actually, 4 Buicks through two.
In the end, it's not about the HP number. It's about the amount of torque that can be instantaneously applied and the amount of traction available.

 

Or, you could just run the live axle like the "Orange Crate" did in the 60's.

 

I saw a reference in another thread about a Creitz Quick Change. Does anyone know it there was such a thing? Any info is appreciated.

 

Not sure about a crietz but I know for a fact there was a klentz quickchange they were made for the early Chevy axle like a 55-64 style the drive line had to be removed to swap gears as the change gears were on the front side as the unit was a dropout style third member they are super hard to find I've been into cars for 40 years and I have only seen two they were both owned by the same guy I could have bought one of them but I couldn't swing the $7500 price tag
