The coupster I have has no doors, but two pieces of sheet metal screwed in place. I want to know if there are any roadster running around with no doors at all? Was this a common practice of saltflat or dirt track open top cars??? ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1433118140.017164.jpg

My roadster had the doors welded shut. I just opened them back up.

VERY common on street driven hot rods in the fifties too. The born again street rodders on here are gonna be on you like white on rice...;)

When you look through the old magazines its like every third channeled fenderless roadster, look at the interior shots, if there are no door lines in the upholstery the doors are welded shut. Some are all slicked up on the outside, some arent.

There's just something about this car that I really like, but I can't quite put my finger on it!

This is a car from my local area that is an old build that is said to have the body welded to the frame and has the doors welded shut. I looked into buying it and the price was right but decided against it because I wanted opening doors and figured I would catch hell from some local rodders for getting rid of the murals that were done in the 70's by a long time owner.

Guess I could channel the body to help for ease of entry and exit....

  15. LOL you'd catch hell from me for leaving them on. ;)

You have posted this car before but I never noticed, the fronts of the doors remain unwelded and the hinges are intact. Its like the guy was thinking ,"well someday I may want to restore the doors."

I was looking at this car on your other thread, it has REALLY GREAT bones. I bet it was originally built in the late fifties and updated??

I would try to dig deeper into its past, there is probably an earlier version you could take it back to?

    OR JUST BECAUSE IT'S AWESOME.

An idea I've been toying with is adding some fender bars (I have no idea what they really call them) like you'd see on a dirt car, in front of the rear tires to double as a step to get into a doorless car.

the car in the background also got magazine coverage. Al Rogers car was really nice, I spent a lot of time looking at the color feature in Hot Rod when I was a kid. Man what a great car...

I've looked at that pic of the B 79 roadster a hundred times and never noticed the doors were welded...

  27. All the doorless cars shown are channeled. Pretty tough to get in a hi-boy without doors.

and we all know what the HAMB tells us about building channeled cars...:D Or cars with cycle fenders...or full wheelcovers...or spring in front...and so on...As I alluded to OP, if you are going to go this route, be prepared for the peer pressure. Conform damn you, CONFORM!!!:D

Black highboys with '48 ford caps and 16" wheels, and dont you forget it!:p
