Good looking car engine sounds great too. You may not want that trans brake lol.

Well....there isn't one that I know of. That was just wishful I guess. It seems there are more altered builds going on lately though. Gassers are cool but I "identify" as altered.

hey Dave i'm with you on that. i can't understand why there isn't a bigger plan to have a show of just 10 seconds and slower altereds. everybody can't afford a fuel altered, especially these days!! it cost a hell of a lot less to make an altered go fast compared to door cars. i run a bantam altered with a flathead in the ANRA series class called "open wheel". it's for altereds and dragsters slower than 10 seconds. we have about 27 cars show up at our events, including HAMB cars. i remember back in 1976 at Tucson, AZ they had the Coca-Cola Fuel Altered Finals and Dave Hough of Nanook fame organized a bracket altered event at the same time to fill in between fuel altered runs. it was altered heaven!! no door cars no fuel dragster just altereds all the time. that was one of the greatest events i have ever been to. one of my greatest memories. i don't remember who won in the fuel altered event, maybe Wild Wild West car, my memory isn't to good anymore but, i do remember who won the bracket event. it was a girl driving a bantam, sbc powered. what was memorable about her was, she had a broken arm and cut off the cast to race.
    DIE HARD ALTERED RACER!!

Got the trans and another motor for it. Using the extra motor for a mock up. Hopefully setting front plate and mid plate today. Then I can finish the firewall and floor. Headers will be next.

To use a trans brake or not is personal preference, We built our car with one and ultimately disconnected it. It is much easier on parts without one , It was funny , when I drove the car I used the trans brake, when my son drove he foot braked it. We finally rested on a setup that we leave from an idle holding with the foot brake and punch it at the last yellow. Our reaction times and 60 foot times are excellent and the car picks the wheels up and just goes. The key is pick a style of launch you and the car is comfortable with and perfect it through practice. Nostalgia racing is all about having fun but the competitive juices get flowing and you don't want to lose first round all the time.

Front and mid plate set in position. Starting on the header fabrication. Floor and trans hump are next on the list.

Working on floor hump, and rear wheel wells. Chassis is welded up. Changing firewall so it stays with the chassis instead of being removable. It should make for a cleaner installation. The firewall bump out sure helps in the legroom department.

Progress has been slow, lots of little things getting done. Will be setting the blower motor and trans in the car for final alignment and such. Waiting for a body shop to finish epoxying some aluminum flanges on the body for the wheel tub mounts. That's about it. Brian.

image.jpeg Update....... These came in today 16x12. Been waiting for a few weeks. The tires should be in next week, then measure for a new rear axle. Progress has been slow, hurry up and wait syndrome.

Axle and rear suspension back in. Tires fit perfectly. I love it when a plan comes together. Got it outside for a picture.

New front tires and Radir wheels. Now it's looking like an altered. More updates to follow soon.

Shifter moved, dash in place. Made an aluminum filler panel for the body. Fits good, looks good, but can't get in the car with it in place. Will have to use a snap in tonneau. Bummer.
