haha...yes that was a "big" strong hitch. We made it to pull this and it worked very well.

 

BamaMav....you are right. Although I was living in Virginia, I was attending college in Utah from 1965-1969. The photo was on one of many trips to Southern California during that time frame. Let's say "about 50 years ago". I am not sure what made me take that photo but it is one of my favorites.

 

He was probably towing his flat bed with his Willys on it.

 

LBC....the old McDonnel Douglas hanger down the street from me...DC stands for "Douglas Commercial". This neon sign is huge and lights up the area real nice...

lbcd all the wings for those birds were built by your Canadian cousins here in Toronto, Ontario Canada. I proudly served a quarter of my life there...You guys still have some historical memories left it seems. I'm sure the closures affected many lives down there...That was a big employer for so many. I really like the preservation of history that seems more prevalent your way. Where Douglas was here in a former wartime aircraft plant now exists a field with nothing...grass No historical reminders...Awesome car by the way

Nice picture!

I sat and wondered about that for about 6 hours one day last summer while I was having my semi repaired at a shop near downtown. It's high end lofts, huh, not too far from them homeless dudes that kept drifting up and down the street. One of them came up to my truck and tried to sell me some tools, I assumed they were stolen. I'd just as soon live a little farther away than that.

 

gas today, 23.9 cents a gallon.

 

My 53 with with the sign from Skinner Chevrolet-

Skinner was in Middleburg N.Y.
The sign is now on Gable Chevrolet in Cobleskill N.Y.

My '34 5-window Coupe with the Mulholland Sign Company's Ford 2-sided neon from Fred Sayre Motors in Ripley, WV that now resides in The Hot Rod Grille Garage. The other pic shows the same sign on the dealership with a load of new '51 Fords. The sign was replaced with a newer one in 1964 and the dealership closed in the 1970's.

Great thread and idea.... too bad all the cool old signs that have survived around here are the signs to old motor courts that are now "hooker motels" don't know if I want to go take pictures there or not.

I have enjoyed looking at other peoples pics for sure
