Not sure if I ever got to see this original car run, but sure enjoyed watching Steves' second version run.

Not exactly in the proper setting on a strip but it was definitely in motion as the tires had just quit smoking!:D
I was hard into second gear at the moment.
Note the Sheriff's car at extreme right in the picture.
Yeah, I did not see that car at the time!

  10. Sigh...there are almost 13,000 pages of threads here on the HAMB, surely you could have found a more appropriate one for these images, no matter how cool it is. We're also getting a lot of images outside of the 1968 upper limit that this thread has been granted. Don't stop posting, but I'd rather we self-police our posts than have a moderator jump in and have to say something.

First, some Half Moon Bay shots (I never raced here but spectated a couple of times when in the Navy, as in the case of many other tracks, noise complaints were the chief culprit in its closing)

No ID on this early Willys

Prudhomme's Torquemaster car, not sure who he is racing...Snake raced Garlits here but not sure that it Garlits in the black car, could be but I think that Garlits car had a tail piece then....anyone else?

The local paper once featured the racing at the strip

Jay Cheatham, from Sunnyvale. Jay was one of the principles behind HMB, helped to start it in the late '50s. Jay added a blower to this Olds powered car, sadly died at the first Smoker's meet in '59.

    No ID on this car

Ivo in the shutdown area. HMB had a short shutdown area -- which probably contributed to Denny Milani's death there in the Gotelli car.

Some Texas shots, and a couple of miscellaneous (this will be it for me for a while, off to the Middle East)

    $_35.jpg
    No ID

Bobby Langley and Vance Hunt duelling it out at Amarillo. From the Vance Hunt Collection.jpg
Two of Texas' finest fuel racers, Bobby Langley and Vance Hunt...not sure who is driving the Hunt car

This might be Houston, Texas guys? Kent Chatagnier ran a blown Pontiac

Not sure on this...looks like an SPE car (George Cerney and Diamond Jim Annin, thanks, ClayMart)

At Houston, no ID on either

    untitled.png
Good coverage of local drag racing by the Houston Chronicle...Rodney Singer with Karol Miller's blown gas Lincoln, would win the '59 NHRA Nationals

    Now some miscellaneous:

    2-7.jpg
Vespa and Smaldino Fargo Ford 4...This is hauling for a banger on gas...Don Yates also drove once.

    22324_10203949415557407_4694292374017551675_n.jpg
Quality Auto Parts from Cerritos CA...Pete Ogden chassis.

    46-Woody-Ford-Cammer.jpg
    Unblown overhead cam Ford...anyone?

    10368155466_92dd7da171_o.jpg
Jim Shores and Skip Hess at Fontana

    Al-and-Hank.jpg
Al Hubbard in the "flying bedstead" near lane, racing Hank Vincent in the "Top Banana," not sure where. Hank would die in this car (with a blower) in the lights at Fremont)

    w1961lm1.jpg
Leonard Harris, far lane, racing Lefty Mudersbach at the '61 Winternationals, Pomona. Lefty's car was the old Money Olds car that won the '57 NHRA Nationals with a carbureted Olds, which Lefty would replace with twin Chevy's....

Especially when it comes to "exhibition of speed" on a public road. Just not what we're into here, folks.
Some rat rod site would probably love this crap, but not here.

I talked to the builder of Jim the Painter the yellow Austin a few years ago. I think he said the original car burnt in a fire.
