I Really like Steve Stanford's 59 nomad drawing. That thing is killer!! Nice to keep seeing all the progress on your 59. Looks great!
Going to get the frame rolling this weekend and try and get the mid section trimmed so I get my door placement. More pics coming soon....
Loving this build! Just rescued a 59 El Camino from a no kill car shelter in Philly. Looking forward to seeing the final product!
Mid section set in place. Got to clean up some of the undercoating to get it to fit better. But it's in. More to come.....
Remind me again why this isn't going to the AST show... that's a ton of progress in a couple weeks, good job
It's going to be a elcamino with a removable top using the convertible windshield frame. When the top is on, it will look like a hardtop elcamino, top off it will look like a convertible.
really sweet. 59's are my favorite chevys. really dig the removable hard top plan and the convertible windshield looks so much sleeker.
Still working on the car, its just going slow due to winter, but getting ready to get the body switched on to the new frame.
Just found this. This is when I got the car in 96. Had been flooded and sitting in the mud all the way up to the floorboards.
So was the El Camino you started with just too far gone and easier to swap the parts to the wagon? It must been really, really bad if a wagon sitting in mud up to the floor boards was in better shape.
All the elcaminos I have had over the years were badly rusted out. It took 8 of them to find a tailgate that wasn't rusted out. The wagon is rusty on the front floor boards but the rockets and structure seems to be solid. The frame is shot. The front and rear drums are locked on. I had to torch the centers to get the wheels to turn once I got it home. The tow truck driver wasn't very happy with picking it up. But it's a better starting point than the elcamino. I hadn't planned on selling the wagon when I got it, but my dad wasn't happy with all the 59's and Mercury's floating around Ravon so something had to go!
Got the elcamino up on the lift and I'm getting it ready to swap out the frame. This is how rusty the under side is. If I'm lucky, it might have the new frame under her by Christmas. To chop,or not to chop. That is the question.
