This is the truth. It seems like the people on here have watched too much of the "Death Wish" series with Charles Bronson. Sure it has crime just like anywhere, but I feel safer in NYC than I do in Jersey City where my office is, especially in Manhattan. If you have a hotel that will allow you to park, you're in great shape. Or if you want to and can afford it time wise, you could stay in NJ and take either NJ Transit into the city or PATH.

Are you suggesting he should stay on the less-safe side of the river?:p:eek:

Some movies that show a NYC that no longer exists:
    The French Connection
    The Seven Ups
    The Warriors
    Saturday Night Fever
    Taxi Driver
    Midnight Cowboy
    Bonfire of the Vanities
    Coming to America

I'm just off of 78 in Pa.. About 40 minutes from 81. All in all, around 1 1/2 to 2 hours out of the city. Let me know when you're getting close, and I'll either follow you in, or lead you in, driving my small block Chevy powered Anglia. I think there are more than a few east coast hot rodders that would be up for a power tour in and out of the city. I've been in and out with various hot rods over the last 40 years, and it's really fun.

I talked with my wife about the trip, she thinks I'm crazy but understands that I have to do it. I also talked with the team, and let them know it's a GO!

So...the fun will begin in about 5 weeks

Good luck still having a truck in a couple years, the crap they put on new york roads is killer. They do the liquid brine now when its 50 out and sunny can't get a break here any more they just love to waste money. Hope you have a great trip it will be fun with lots of stories to tell and when you go back home and leave this lousy state turn the light off.

Blast it all. I wanted to look that Suburban over real good. I'm one of those goofy people that you see at car shows, down on their hands and knees with their head up under the car, trying to see how something was done. I've never seen a GV unit, but I did a whole "study" once on putting one in an OT vehicle with a 460 and a C6. Good Luck on the trip!

Yup that's "killer" alright, that's why I mentioned further back to spray the entire under carriage and wheels wells with some type of oil based rust proofer, nothing works as well as oil based products to repel sodium and moisture.
Here is a good one used in eastern Canada, weather much like New York State, salt usage similar,

Just a thought and ? for you, now Jim's suburban, is most likely new like underneath, living it's life in sunny dry Arizona, do you really think a week or 2 in the snow belt, is going to rust it all out?
Yes would think, if Jim let it get all salted up, then never cleaned it, it may leach into inner crevices and do it's damage.
Just a thought I had, would just a quick trip through the salt belt, ruin his truck?

The roads in New York are ass and we haven't had much snow as of yet so if winter decides to really show up it's gonna be later like feb-March and idk if the salt will all be off the road unless it's warm and rainy before hand

Hey Jim, here's an inspirational picture, just taken on my road, temp about 5f, yesterday was 39f, tomorrow supposed to be 36 and rain possible.
Well maybe an old Dodge isn't that inspirational, but she went for a ride, and was toasty warm with a good heater...

Build yourself some wheel boots and cable them (not chain) to the chassis when in use, also install a Lowjack. I would recommend this to anybody that takes a unique car on the road. I see more cars stolen from motels and storage units than any where else.

Suburban is mostly packed. Leaving monday AM. Should be fun. At least the weather isn't forecast to be cold. Probably get some rain storms on the way.

I keep slipping up, forgetting it's been a long time ago since I've been your age Jim, and I think things like "Glutton for Punishment". Then I remember I did the same crazy shit with our old cars back when, Oops!

Supposed to be warm in NYC middle of next week. Looking good in that area.

880 am has traffic and weather reports at 8 min past every hour, listen to that when in range & plan accordingly.

Use the Waze app for navigation near any big city.

    Take pictures! Post them!
