So Dad and I have been looking for a LONG time for a Model A, specifically a 5 window. We finally found one. Now, I guess you could say it's half done. When we brought the car home, it is red. We didn't do the first part of the build, so I don't want to take credit for something I didn't do. What the original builder did do, was send me a full set of build pictures so I could compile a build thread.

The car was from Springfield MO.. and was originally done up to look like a rat rod.. and honestly that's not really my thing. So the first thing that happened was basically take everything apart.. body came off, engine came out. It was taken down to a bare roller basically.

Yes! For sure! Real steel, no bondo, solid frame, no rust. She's a keeper!

Thanks! The plan is what you see in my profile picture.. since that's where she is now.. but basically a 60's style traditional car. The garage you see was where most of the car was built isnt our garage. It's in our garage now though

The car was then re sanded, and all the old steering was removed. Then off came the body. Most of the time spent on the build consisted of sanding and prepping for paint on both the body and frame, as well as the suspension components.

The paintjob isn't very good, but from a distance it looks nice. There's a lot of runs in the paint at the back of the body by the rear axle in behind the wheels, and the driver door doesn't have enough paint on it. We called the color Fire Engine Red

This was taken right after the body and the frame were mated for the first time since paint... she's starting to look like a car again!

Because real hot rods have straight axles and the original front axle was so clapped out, a Pete N' Jake's 4' drop axle was put in up front and the back was left as is (previous owner Z'd the frame 6 inches in the back, and re located the fuel tank to under the trunk).

Also decided to ditch the straight front arms for hairpins, and all the suspension components were painted black to match the rest of the frame.

Once the engine was dropped into the car, an Ididit steering column with the tilt option was installed. I'm not sure if' we'll keep this as it is really inconvenient because the steering shaft rubs against the spark plug boots..

So here's what the car looked like when we got it It still needs a lot, but it's a good start for us. Went with the Big and Little style. Firestone pie crusts in back, Cokers up front. She needs a new water pump and an oil pan gasket.. but other than that it runs very well with the fresh Ford 289/302 heads, and the C4 trans.

Now, we only used those headers because it's what came with it. The plan all along was to go with a pair of lake headers. I looked online for some designs, and I drew one up one night and showed my dad. He like what he saw so that's what we went with. This is what I came up with. The metalwork is not mine btw, just the design.

We went with Smittys glasspacks under the car, with a customized Speedway header kit. Very very happy with this result.

Glad you didn't chop it, it looks pissah! ( East Coast term meaning "right on the money"!)

yeah we aren't sure yet if we are going to chop her. my dad is 6'2 and fits basically perfectly. If I were to chop it I personally would do the 3 inch chop.. for this car anything more is too radical. But that's only a thought. I like the car where it is for the time being.

If you DO chop it, 3" is the magic number as far as I'm concerned- still looks proportionally good, and you can DRIVE sitting like a human.

Before and after; 3" off the top.
