    Wow
Tony, that car would have been an absolute blast to own.
I'm sure the brakes weren't the best (what do I know about AM's), but no matter, that is such a cool car and everybody knows (should by now), I have a thing for 327's.
This kind of reminds me of a car I saw in one of my old Hot Rod mags, an early 60's Siata. IIRC, the article showed a 327 and B/W T-10 being swapped into it.
It had to be a blast to drive as they also added some reinforcements/ modifications to it.

  7. DD, the Aston was good for 160+. Brakes were 4 wheel disk, I think
Gurling. The spedo was 180MPH, as I remember? I saw an honest 150MPH with the Vette engine.
It was a "Superleggera" body. steel tubing with all aluminum skin.
I think it weighed about 2450#. The Vette engine looked like it was born there.

  8. Here is that Siata with 265 installed in '57
    It later got the 327!
Didn't find a pic of the engine. 20204_Front_3-4_Web.jpg

Ya, well I got a Super Modified for FREE ! It used to be driven by Bently Warren ( who placed in the Indy 500). It was in the middle of a vegetable garden in Georgetown, Mass.

Hey, what happened to the OP and that "Shaguar" story?? I hope he didn't trade it for a Lancia Flavia!
    Open the hood!

Cool find on the Jag and some cool stories thrown in for good measure. Like a lot of others who are in their late 60's that model of Jag was one of my dream cars when I was a kid.

Not a lot of people have ever heard of these cars but I was sure you had.
I have so many boxes of old magzines that I wouldn't know where to start looking.
IIRC, the owner was a musician of some sort, possibly from SoCal.
I'd be interested in knowing more about that car, assuming you do, any chance you know what magazine that was in.

Good for your dad. Looks like he beat Wayne Carini to this one. Wow, a nice find.

  13. DD,
We gotta stop messing with this thread!
Maybe we can find or start a sports rods of the '50's threadI
    Ever hear of Max Balashowski!
I sold all my mags about 10 years ago.
I spent too much time trying to remember what was in what.
I'm now getting into the 20'th century, I found the Siata on Google in 1 minute!
It was at Barret Jackson in '04!
    it only brought $137,000 then!

If it was mine and all matching numbers, I'd restore it and sell it at auction. They bring higher and higher prices these days. If it wasn't matching numbers, I'd put a modern Jag drive train in it and keep it for awhile to enjoy. Gary

Tony, do a search for sports rods or specials. There are quite a few threads here. Gary

In the condition that car is in , I'd bet it's ALL original.
Biggest problem is that it's been sitting on the GROUND ( okay, maybe 6" off) for 4 years and the under side could be a mess. Doing ANYTHING but restoring a car in that good a shape with the pedigree it has would be a BIG MISTAKE. ( and stupid!! (sorry I get very passionate about old Jags- nothing personal).

If the new owner doesn't want to dive in , sell it to someone who WILL ( you'll still make a fistful of dough, and the car will be treated with the respect it deserves. ) One of those for PARTS is worth 10-15 grand OR MORE. Check Hemmings.

  19. Hey Mike B, and the owner of the sweet 150 Drophead,
    This is just my $.02
I used to feel the same way 30 years ago.
At that point I thought everything had to be restored.
I'm different now. I like to hear what the car has to say.
This car is saying to me, " I was happy up 'till 30 years ago,
with my little high revving V8, running through the
Colorado mountains, hearing the screaming exhaust,
downshifting hard for the corners, getting all the thumbs up. Then
I got left in a smelly horse barn for a long time and nobody cared!
Then they even stuck me out in the cold! I deserve to be brought
back to running, driving and stopping, ASAP! I don't need to be
stuck in a restoration shop for another 5 years!
There are enough restored 150's . Let me be happy as what I am. Nobody
will ever build one like me again!"

Fortunately I learned this lession about 35 years ago.
I never thought it was the wrong decision.
Again, not to step on anybody's toes,
    Just my $.02

I hope they post pictures of the motor soon- a beautiful dual overhead cam, dual carb., aluminum head 6 cyl.-- 210 cu in. - 190 HP / total vehicle weight = 2900lbs. Factory specs. 0-60/ 8 seconds ( 4 spd manual tranny)

I used to win a lot of bets after people caught up to me and , because the car had dual (split) exhaust, they insisted it must have an 8 cylinder . It cost them $10. bucks for me to open the hood; I got lots of free beer and gas money that way! Google up a picture of one- most people didn't know WTF it was.

Mr. OP, where did you go? More pics, por favor!
No more thread blockage on my part, I promise- just stating facts!

DB4's are worth north of 3/4 million dollars these days........

  24. Hey GeeRam,
    No offence then or now!
Back in '82 the running driving Aston with the 327
    cost me $8,000.
Nobody would even look at it when I poped the hood.
The purists were around then too!
One British enthusiast offered to sell me an engine
    for "only $12,000"
I said "Why would I pay you $12,000 to loose 100+ HP?"
    I sold it in '84 for $25,000.
    Just the way it was.
Didn't bother me then, doesn't bother me now!
And I still would buy another with a 327 if the price was right.
    AWESOME car.
Same applies with this wonderfull 150!
I still love Jags! Stock or not!

Maybe a little know Jaguar fact. In 1953 NASCAR opened up their Grand National division to "Foreign" cars. Canadian Sprint Car Champion, Lloyd Shaw entered a Jaguar sedan in the Langhorne, Pa. race.

The car was owned by Canadian Jaguar Dealer James Cook. Shaw who had raced his sprint car at Langhorne put the Jaguar on the pole for the race. This remains the only race that a Canadian has sat in the pole position for a NASCAR premier division race.

Shaw's sprint cars were also powered by Jaguar. He was a multi year champion in Canada in both sprinters and stock cars.

Really nice find and I look forward to your dad's progress with it.

  26. Very cool car and I think it is a good plan to just get running a driving as it is, survivor style car to have fun with. It will never go down in value, so enjoy it for what it is, and someday if Dad gets tired of it, sell it for big money to a restorer.

Tony are you talking about Max Balchowski of "old Yeller" fame? He was a guy that knew how to read a rule book creatively. That Jag is really cool! A 327 is lighter and can make a LOT more power than the 3.8 Jag.IIRC the Le mans winning factory D jags made about 330 hp and that was pretty much the end of the line.

  28. Ya that's him.
    Old Yeller II.
Ran a hot Buick. Won the first race
he ever entered. And plenty more!
    I love junkyard dog cars.
I never raced (legally) anything, but I had a
64 race prepaired E-Type that competed
at Brighampton on LI in the late 60's.
    It had a 4.2, about 12/1 compression, (24volt starter)
Iskenderian racing E-2 cams, tripple Webbers,
Vertex Cintilla mag, (threw a spark 2 inches long),
fuel cell, Special Offset HD wire wheels, Goodyear blue streaks.
    With a 3:54 rear it would do a 4 second 0-60.
But it would top out at about 140MPH.
I used it as a street car for a while. Burned AV-Gas. about 105 Octane!
Don't know what the hp was but it was FAST!
Got rid of it to buy the '61 Aston Martin 327!
Sorry to step on the thread again!
I wanna see what is under the "bonnet" of that 150!
