I'm building a 60s style banger 29 A fenderless coup and I am stuck on the taillights to use. I would like to mount the lights without cutting the back panel. Any Ideas out there will be appreciated, the Portland Oregon swap meet is coming up in April and I need ideas. If I knew how to post pictures I would, but I'm a computer challenged old fart.

The 46-48 Ford tail lights look good on the back of those but you need to drill two holes for the attachment studs and a larger hole for the light socket to stick through. Any lights that are self contained will be bulky looking sticking out the back like the stock lights. You could mount them under the back of the body but that is kind of low for seeing and the back panel is really the perfect place.

Use truck lights with hollow threaded studs on top....this way you drill one hole in the bottom of the panel.....wires pass up through hollow stud , cheap and looks bad ass too... image.jpg

You could adapt these Ford lights, I used here on a 1950 Chevy build, with just 2-mount holes to drill.

I have always liked '39 Ford Tear Drop lights. You can create a lot of looks with them depending on how you place them and or the number of them used.

  11. Lots of good ideas but may miss the original question...

  13. Since you don't want to cut the rear panel you might consider the Model A pickup tail light stands with the original taillights or maybe a set of 37 Ford lights bolted below the rear panel. HRP

this may also miss the mark, but still might be worth a look...

'41 Dodge tail-lights. They match the curve of the Model A body as if they came on it.

2 bolt holes & wire hole for each

We used Ford 37's on this 28 roadster. Welded rear pieces of 32 frame to back of shortened 32 frame and added a spreader bar/bumper to stick out past end of car. Mounted the 37's to the frame horns instead of body. Rear2.jpg

Maybe not for everyone but I trimmed an otherwise useless set of these from a 60 bonneville. I say useless because they were damaged on the side I wouldn't need for my application.

30-TAIL.jpg I used 37 Ford LED tail lights from Speedway Motors and brackets from So-Cal Speed shop. These could be altered in many ways. The lights are flame throwers (very bright). Gary

You may want to consider surface mount LED tail lights. Some are very thin, bright, lightweight and need very small holes for the wires/screws since they don't carry much current.

Single tail light/brake light / plate light , with 2 old Harley "outriggers" and a couple of red reflectors. There are already 2 threaded holes in the rear subframe x-member to mount the plate bracket to, and the Harley lights go through bolt holes on the sides of the subframe. DSCN2351.JPG
