    I would guess that to be one of the few flathead V8's running at that time due to the prevalence of the Bangers and the converted Bangers and the plethora of speed equipment available. Notice how nice a car that is and the single carb.

    Hank's car looks bad enough, but man, did that concrete wall pay the price!

    i know this is a big car thread, but i just wanted the folks to see Johnny Thomsons humble beginnings, as he went on to be one of the worlds greatest drivers. this shot is one of his earliest rides, in the Bob McFee v8 out of Salem, N.H. IMG_0314.JPG

    Rootie, you can see how the exhaust pipe ran with a low under axle bend. When the fuel tank split, the hot exhaust ignited the fuel!

    When Bignotti rebuilt the car the exhaust was a more normal configuration, above the axle.

    Tommy, since you mentioned Bill Holland a few posts back - here's a photo and 8-24-40 race report from "The Thompson Speedway Scrapbook 1940" (clicking on the link should lead you to a HD source) 'Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library - Yale University.
    (If you note the write-up, Bobby Sall set fast time and I believe he was in the famous Peters Offy (the former Cunningham Fronty)

    thank you, Carl for those great pics of thompson, Ct. When Thompson was built before the war it was known as the Indianapolis of the east, owing that at the time it was the biggest paved track back here {5/8 of a mile} it is still going strong after all these years. { all the greats drove Thompson, the great Tony Willman was killed here in 1941}

    A few years ago I was able to purchase a digital copy of that scrapbook from Yale. I was told that any future orders for the same would be far less costly since they already did the work at the library top produce my copy. I also sent that link to several 'New England Motorsport Historians' and the newly forming NE Museum but never heard a word back from any of them. lol
