I seen a rear end ready to go into another vehicle with working brakes and cleaned up for $3000.00 once at a swap meet, but I also seen that guy never unload it from his trailer and I believe he went home without selling it too.
I paid 750 for one complete with 4:56 gears and a ratcheting locker And traded the disc brakes for a set of skeleton drums even up
Just like your underwear, Depends! To get an accurate value, you need to supply more information. Do they have spools or differentials? What is the spline count on the inboard ends of the axles? Are the pinion nose bearing supports broken? Are the pinion gears pitted? What is the offset of the center in relation to the rear wheel mounting surfaces? Are the castings aluminum, magnesium or a combination? Are there change gears included? Although they have wide 5 hubs, the disk brakes would be a turn off for most HAMB builders. The 8 rib side bells are not the most popular style either. The prices the others have posted are all SWAG. You can get a better idea of what you should ask for them if you will take off the left side bells and rear covers and post some pictures of what you find. You won't hurt anything or disturb the set ups by doing this. A fair price also Depends on if you're buying or selling
Prices vary wildly. In my area, there is a lot of circle track racing, so they are pretty plentiful. 600-1000 depending on condition and what is inside them. For a hot rod application, a differential is worth more than a spool. Most guys will want to open them up to check the pinion support area and the overall condition of the guts. Most HAMB guys wouldn't want the big wide 5 pattern, but my buddy Uncle Mark kind of parted out an early sprint car to build his Model A and I think the wide 5 looks pretty cool with the overall theme of the car. -Abone.
I like the the wide five set up but then again I might be biased. A friend bought one for $600 and sold it for the same price. It needed bearings because water had gotten into it and caused rust issues.
Guy wanted 1000 for both. I don't need them. I was going to keep 1 and replace the 9" in my t with it. Sell the other to cover that expense. Doesn't sound like it will. Thanks guys.
I passed up 2 of them late model Winters with disk brakes and wide 5 hubs for 900 bucks for both, only because the only thing to me that was usable was the case, bells, and gears.
I paid $450 for mine and drove 600 miles to get it. Swapped out axles, axle tubes, hubs, brakes and changed it from a spool to a posi.
bought a brand new one the other day from jim franklin,champ w/diferential, tru-trac, axil tubes , set of gears, $600.00, been in my 34 for 25yrs, OOPs time flys..
