Projects BACK TO MY ROOTS-261 CHEVROLET 6 Powered Model A Stock Car

Loving this build. Will be interested to see how the 6 fits in, as I am going to have a similar battle with my Dodge 218 into my avatar. Subscribed

 

From my experience with 261's it's an unnecessary experience for a street engine. If he gets some compression into the engine and gets the quench under .050 the engine might be close to 200 HP at 4800 rpm.The stock 261 rods will handle this no problem.
My last 261 build used Ross forged flat tops with the intake valve pocket. I had the pistons made with more compression height to get it near zero deck without milling the shit out of the block....About 600 bucks for the set...

Great collection of parts here! May I recommend a method of attack for your 'A' frame?
Position your engine behind radiator in frame. When it's where you'd like it, set body. (it may be 3" or so farther back)
Now, if lengthening is still desired, make a diagonal cut on each side of frame. A piece of 2" X 3" rectangular tube (.125" wall) can be inserted for both lengthening and kick up.
A simple layout and measurement will determine angle, length of tubes, and arrive at stretch and drop values.
I say 2" X 3" as the frame gets 'thin' in cross section toward the rear. I like proportion.
This is my favorite method on Model As.

 

I have been following your posts in both the 261 thread and this thread for some time now. I had my first 261 in a 1955 Pontiac, that is how they came in Canada. By 1965 I was building a 1932 Bantam coupe with a 261 for the street. Last year I reacquired the Bantam body and am in the process of building a nostalgia altered. Again it will be powered by a 261. Like you, nothing newer then 1962. I found a never used McGurk roller cam assembly and while visiting the American Pickers shop, I procured 60s race prepped 235. It included original Wayne rocker cover and side cover, a set of Fenton header exhaust and a triple Offenhauser intake and carbs. I have talked to B&G about doing the head and they said yes so we will see where that takes us. My partner in this project is currently building a Model A pickup but with a V6 in it. I am just north of you across the border. Hope we can talk sometime.

I am a big fan of inline 6's and have had a few over the years. My current build is a BLD269 International engine mated to a flathead bell housing and using a modified flathead flywheel. The compression ratio is low but I plan on supercharging it later.

No plans to lengthen the frame.

I don't have a firewall, I plan on building one.

I need to get a shop up.

I was renting space from a high tech, billet, pro street guy.

That didn't work out!

 

Haven't been on the Hamb in a while!!! But this thread a load of good info on the 261!!! I run one in me 53 Chevy! Love it!

I am still looking for shop space to do my frame.
However I have space to build my engine.

My father and I fabricated a engine run in stand, for Chev. 6's.
He cut the steel and I welded it at work.
Engine mounts will be built soon.

I am sorting out my shed and realized I never had all my parts on an engine at the same time.

This is not the 261 block or 848 head I will be running-


I have an N.O.S. Mallory 6 brown cap and rotor.

So what the exact specs on the 261? I'm also running a nos mallory with a sweet Nicson intake I just picked up? Carb wise what r u running the rochesters or others ! Killer thread man diggin it

Things have slowed down at work. Back to 40 hours a week.
I plan to resume engine work soon.
However I need to save money some money making my first trip to Hersey.
