While de-rusting a fender I just bought I found a repair made years ago. Its now going to be wall art.

What do the fenders fit? Should we be looking for a better pair for you? Bob

    Man, those are rough.

  5. Those look very close to 32 Studebaker fenders.

Man I'd give $500 each for those nice fenders. ;)
Fergit it. Wife just hid my check book and credit card. And took away my meds.

  8. Are you wanting to save the fenders or the tag????

Take that tag down to your DMV and tell them you'd like to use it when the rig is ready to hit the road. ;)

  10. The bigger feat is de-rusting those fenders and having anything left.

  11. MAN THOSE ARE SOME ROUGH FENDERS

  12. If you can save those fenders, you are a good metal man.

The fenders are '33 - '36 Willys. Kind of hard to find. I actually have another pair just as bad. Don't know if I can salvage them, but I'm going to try. I'd like to find a pair of '33 fronts in like condition if anyone knows of any. And no, I'm not a metal man, but you gotta try.

They would take some time to massage back into shape. I would go for it but then I will try and fix anything that casts a shadow. There is lots of metal there yet!

Found three more and one is even worse. Also found the fronts, much better, but dear. The last piece of the puzzle is the hood. PC040098.JPG P7260066.JPG

I'm using citric acid. It's used in food and soft drinks. Takes about five days.

Wow , 5 days in citric acid that's very fast, what concentrations? I put some 27 T coupe doors in a 7 to 1 molasses bath and they took over a month or more but came out black but very rust free. One very religious the other not quite so holy.

  19. Why couldn't you save those?

Same as dropping a radiator cap on the floor and building a car around it.

I built my roadster around a column drop, an aluminum rod out of a fuel motor, bought it in the swap meet at the CHRR in Bako over fifteen years ago, still not finished.

I used molasses several years ago, but the neighbors complained about the smell so I switched to citrus. (If you use a pressure washer your parts should look like these). The citric acid ratio I use is 50 pounds of citrus to 300 gallons of water. It lasts longer than molasses too.

  24. So I have to ask because I like what I see. Does the Citric Acid come in a powder form? Also where can you buy the product?

I hope this is your official build thread, I wish you well with your Coupe project. I was able to collect all the original bits to assemble a 1937 Harley years ago that started out when I bought a rear fender. Bob

I found citrus at a brewing supply business. I buy it in 50 pound bags for $105. The freight on the internet will kill you. It comes in a crystal form. I would not clean cast iron parts in citrus. Others have said it can hurt it. Something about the porosity or the impurities in cast iron. I know it will EAT aluminum serial number tags and pot metal.
