Many post production parts such as blocks carried a casting "diamond" as shown. In this photo the side plate (aluminum aftermarket) is to the left and the timing gear cover is to the bottom right. Some people think these are better engines and no doubt they carried all of the latest upgrades.

My trucks numbers were right at the firewall foot, and had to peel back the webbing to see it.
Have to agree with Charlie that trucks seem to be stamped only once.

If I remember correctly, the wheels were aftermarket made for or by General tire and known as General Jumbo wheels.

Great find Larry! Check the top of the bellhousing for an engine number. There is one on eBay, if you buy it I'll Christmas wrap it for free. Merry Christmas! Bob

Minor point. It is stamped into a boss on top of the flywheel housing near where the starter bolts on for a Model B. The V8 had it on the bell housing (which was integral to the transmission case).

Another thought, when you take the truck to DMV and they say they want to inspect the VIN (actually the serial number) just point to the one of the flywheel housing and there is a good chance they won't know they are supposed to find one on the frame. Be sure the numbers match before you take it in for inspection.

I found the vin numbers on the frame!...yay...they were inboard of the drivers firewall foot.

I can't wait for warmer weather to start tearing this thing apart...in the meantime, I'll get it running/stopping reliably and use it around town. Future plans call for a 283 per @Dennis Lacy

oh hell yeah...the bed is what makes it unique from all the others. I won't run it with the stake sides or canopy top pieces...just the bed itself.

 

so do I Bob...and the greyhound radiator cap is an original piece, not a repro...even has the chain and scissor clip that keeps it attached to the radiator while servicing. I'll get pics of it tomorrow when it warms up outside.

 

I vote to keep the stake sides.

If the Greyhound on the radiator has nuts, its an original, the repos don't have nuts.

I guess this doesn't apply to the Quails tho..

 

Larry, How about posting the serial number with XXX for the last three digits? How about a picture of where you found the serial number, again without the last 3 digits? Does the number match the paperwork?
