    Thanks guys

Full of oil, and yes I could have forgotten ...

Sounds like a tire rub .. Rub silence rub silence rub etc etc

Can't find anything rubbing anywhere , jacked it up ran it with and without tires ...nothing

Rear pumpkin is from John 9 inch
Moser narrowed the rear and made the axles

    Brakes an drums are new

Only makes a noise under load and acceleration

    Thoughts ?

It's a relatively long rub sound snd loud under acceleration

I would have said tire , initially

Now it sounds like a metal rub like a drum to backing plate

Could not identify anything meaningful when I looked at this perhaps I missed it

I would not discount anything at this point

  9. Sorry I have no noise solutions, but I do have some of those coffee sacks...err, upholstery material:D

Hope the noise is an easy fix. Car looks great.

The air cleaner snouts are simple to make. I made this into a dual snout.

Re arena noise is still a problem , I have re adjusted pinion angle

Pull the drive shaft and inspected

Pulled the rear tires and drums 3 times

Can't find any marks or scrapes on the drum backing plate

Switching drums side to side makes no difference

Noise gets worse the longer you drive it, increase maybe associated with brake use

Does not seem to be deep enough to be gears

Have sanded the shoes on the high spots...

    I'm stumped

Could the edge of the shoe be hitting the inside of the drum? Maybe the return springs too heavy for the hold down springs? Self adjuster not seated right, if you are running the adjusters. Good luck, Dennis

I ran it on jack stands , no noise

    Noise only occurs on acceleration

Could you have a roller sticking in the bearing? if one of them has light pitting it may only stick under load.

My coupe also had a noise from the rearend in the beginning. It was exactly as Dennis D said . Shoe edge touched the drum. Grinded the shoes a little on the sides and the noise was gone .
If it isn't the mentioned, I'm sure a lot of rpm can fix it Mike ;)

  21. Mike: This likely has nothing to do with your issue but, I couldn't find new drums for the 8" in my car so I used '82 F150 drums. 8" with a 4 1/2" bolt circle (only year for that on pickup). the drums were a little deep so I had to make spacers to put on the axle before installing drums. They have made contact once or twice but not necessarily under load. Hope you find it....Tim

Way to slow at the moment Tim,this autumn it's been a lot at work and also helped a friend with a chassis for a '32 sedan .
Now I'm spending the time giving the Coupe an airpump during the winter and the plan is to get back to the roadster project as soon as the Coupe is put back together before the summer.
Anyway I've recently found a Halibrand QC for the roadster .

hmm...the bearings are new...I could pull the axls

sounds more like the right side is causing the issue..
