    The first pic in this post was taken in St. Augustine, Fl. Pic looking north on A1A towards the old fort, Castillo de San Marcos. Great bar just south of this pic with live entertainment, "Tradewinds"

    This just hurts! W engine, manual tranny. Road draft tube in sight but I can't see the dipstick. One bubbletop that didn't make it

    WWII P-39 "Air Cobra" engine behind pilot, he straddled the driveshaft that operated the propeller with 20mm cannon in center.

    Just curious, are you indicating 348 & 409 were W engines?
     
  19. Yes, that's what we call 'em where I'm from. Looks like a 3 speed tranny laying there.

    OK…I understand… W engines are normally engines that cylinders are not inline but share a common crankshaft, like a V8 but cylinders not inline on each side.

    I was wondering if you were joking about a V8 that turned into a W8 after being hit by a train. :D

    P-63 "King Cobra" same deal. I'm not sure that it was an improvement.
