This car is coming along really nice. You guys are really doing it justice.

  2. What are the plans for side glass since eliminating the vent Windows? None at all or one piece?

  3. Nice! Adding even more coolness to an already great looking car!

    Thanks!
I hate when that happens!! Thankfully we have 2 hands!!
    Thank you!
Good eyes! Yes there is a notch. This is because it is clecoed in place from the inside so that we can stand back and make sure we are happy with the angle. This area will be primarily new metal shaped steel panels going in. If this was welded in like this I would have a big Buuuuuttt too. (What am I saying I do have a big buuuuttt! -as you can see while I planish this fuel filler delete panel.;))
    Thank you!
We are putting one piece windows in it to eliminate that one visible vertical line at the side angle.

  6. Nice, I have been debating on which way to go about my side windows, vent, no vent. So you eliminate the notches or tabs where the vent window used to be so the full one piece window can travel up and down freely? Who do you use for glass? Or do it yourself?

These are the tabs that I have on my 50 Dodge that I was wondering if you removed.
Thanks for your time and the chop and car are looking bad ass. Can't wait to see more.

Thanks! Yes you eliminate the tabs where the vent used to be. On the 40 Plymouth it is a straight shot so you don't need to add a filler piece in order to get a straight line. For a one piece window there must be a straight line for the window to move up and down. ___________________
On say a 47 Pontiac It isn't straight so you have to make a filler panel and change the garnish molding. It looks more like the 1st example on this badly drawn diagram (the only thing this terrible drawing is missing, is the cocktail napkin!)
Anyways, I hope it helps IMG_9016.jpg

Sorry, I just realized I didn't answer all of your questions. For flat glass we have a guy that has been doing it for about 40 years that we use. His name is Butch and he's amazing! He is like family to us and has the best stories! He's not cheap, but his work is great! (We don't do glass, upholstery, filler, or full paint jobs) We do everything else though. We have done body work & paint in the past but we would rather leave it to people that are masters of that craft, which we are not. Also we like people to see what's under the paint.

Experimenting with different radiuses to see which would look best. (These are just test pieces, not the piece we will actually use.) IMG_9099.PNG IMG_9100.PNG IMG_9101.PNG

Those are nice tight radii on your shrinks and stretches. Can you post a pic of your tool? (gee that reads badly, but you know what I mean. )

It's a Lancaster style shrinker/stretcher with a base Clark made with foot pedals.

Excellent job so far. Most mid 40's mopar's you see chopped are usually flat and square looking in the back window area because people just try to lay the window down. your panel work seems to be createing a nice "S" shape flow to those areas . the new radius for the window frame are also top notch . Also is the back tattoo yours or his? lol larry

  20. That coupe is coming along pretty freaking nice. Kick ass metal work. Keep those pics coming.

Thanks so much! People who call themselves "hacks" seldom are, just as people who claim to be the best seldom are! I'm sure your work is great or better yet....spectacular!!
Thank you, Clark's not bad. ;) I still have a lot to learn though!
Thank you, it's a lot more work but we think it's worth it. Back? the one with a belly button? That would be Clark. Mine will have to say tig wife. ;)
    Thanks! will do.
    Thanks Paul!

    Nice looking chop..

  27. There´s something on these cars that always looks just a tiny bit off to me and it´s the flat back window. There´s that lovely curved trunk lid and roof and then there´s this flat piece of glass smack bang in the middle of it, spoiling the lines. Is there no similarly shaped, slightly curved rear window that could be substituted?

Incredible welding and metal shaping skills you have.

This thread is really great, love what is going on with the minimal chop.

Check out what Zombie77 did, 1941 Mercury rear window.

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1941-plymouth-chop.397521/page-3

With that said, these rooflines have a slight dip at the cat walk between the trunk and lower section where the roof meets the body. I'm not sure how one would retain that when chopping, since there are so many compound curves, but it is what helps the 40-41 Plymouths with their distinctive rooflines.
