Here is the harmonic balancer done! It's made from two pieces of billet steel and vulcanized rubber. It still needs the timing marks machined, after I get the crankshaft and pistons in so I can make a pointer and use a dial indicator.

 

Also, the custom made 70 75 billet aluminum flywheel ready to go!

Thanks for the good feedback.
These are the prototypes. (for my car!)
We've been thinking about making a small run of these items.
We took the dampener pieces to Damperdudes. He's a pro at making them. (five minutes from the shop!)
He at one time got all the early cores and rebuilt them by the thousands for Napa and all other parts suppliers. (before China started remaking them) The rubber is a two component, that's then heated in an oven ,(vulcanizing) I believe for four hours. Then spun balanced by a High tech machine made just for dampeners.
They are a direct bolt on. We will price out the cost after finding full length material close to the size we need to reduce a little machine time. We will need to see first that if we buy a 20' length that they will sell? We don't want to be stuck with too much steel.
I'll tell you that they are very expensive! The 14" x 14" x 3" 70 75 billet aluminum for the flywheel was $600.00 just for the 48 lb solid piece and then it was whittled down to 22 lbs with the steel insert and all fasteners.

Im here great work on the flywheel I take it that it has extra bolts and maybe xtra dowels are the bolts threw steel lined holes or does it not need that ?

Only time you need steel lined bolt holes is when the flywheel gets loose!

My search skills suck. I did try. For a 30's "period correct" banger. What is correct for the exhaust? Did they run pipe headers back then? Cast headers? Split exhaust manifolds?

 

Jim, if you read any of Don Montgomerys books most ran stock exhaust manifold and some sort of pipe and muffler up untill 1946 on street/race car. If it was a Dry Lakes car only then they ran all types of pipe headers down the side of the car. That flywheel and dampener look amazing.
I just pushed my junk around this weekend while trying to clean out my storage garage.

 

How much time do you have in the flywheel ?

 

Bluto is right, You shouldn't need a steel insert unless it comes loose. I have a really close tolerance on fit, even the shoulders for the A.R.P. bolts. There are 6 bolts to the crankshaft, 2 dowels and 2 threaded holes so I can remove it with a steering wheel puller! The flywheel took a couple days just to get it at that size then the insert and bolt holes a few days later, it was done in between other small jobs . I'm busy on other things right now but we will figure pricing for either piece for those who may want one or both. I'll try and post that tomorrow if that's okay on this thread? Maybe I'll have to put it on the parts for sale? I don't want my post to be deleted!

thanks Bluto and Sandman the only reason I ask is I found out the hard way should be ok with A.R.P. bolts mine where so called high tensile cost me a flywheel

 

Wow. 530Sandman. Nice work. That flywheel is magic. If you workout balancer prices, I'm interested, btw. My engine is buttoned back up, at last. I'm hoping to lift it in tonight. - Ed

 

No problem, My A.R.P. bolts also came pre drilled for the safety wire.

I don't think I ever lost a flywheel even with stock bolts. I do chaffer the bolt holes and use close fitting bolts. The dowels should really locate the flywheel. and the bolts can't run out of threads, it does happen and you feel like your torquing them. Or bottom out
