Projects Building hot rods from garbage ( non-survivor club)

The title of this thread, and it's possible original intention, seems to have taken a different direction....in a great way.

Many of these builds with custom changes never would have been tried by these "closet custom body craftsmen". If they only had nice original cars, they never would/could have tested their hidden talents by creating new shapes and body styles.

some people complain that there isn't much good stuff on hamb, but just look at all these builds.

I agree 100% with you man. If its already screwed up you can't really hurt it right?

I keep going back and forth on some of the mods I think I might like on my sedan. I have been around long enough to know that it is just a car but I still go back and forth on it.

 

But he had a near cherry set of doors too....

 

Yea, I saw those "cherry" doors...

 

Even though kev is obviously a talented individual ... I'm sure that was not the process....

More than likely it was hey a Willys piece I better keep that then along came some trashy doors nobody wanted.. Better keep them for patching or something ... Then maybe some roof pieces show up...

All of the sudden.. You know... If I had the back of a cab this could be a pick up.... Of course always easier said than done.... Unless your kiwi kev of course!

hey, and Bullit was on PBS on the weekend. I recorded it, but haven't watched it yet. Somewhat less pressing when its about the 50th time...

 

All this stuff is cool but how do you title or register them? ......especially in Pennsylvania?

 

Can't help you in Pennsylvania as I never registered a vehicle there but if you go to the SEMA site they have a PDF with up to date registration requirements by state. Probably easiest is to find a clear Pennsylvania title for the car in question.

In Missouri you have to have some sort of a number that doesn't come back as stolen or in use, it can be the number off your chassis or where ever the car in question has a number on it like a serial number. Some guys here even use engine numbers (serial numbers) if no one else is using that number and then they get a bonded title. if no one claims it in two years it becomes an original title.

A lot of states have that option I don't know about Pennsylvania though.

 

i started with absolute shit to build my coupe
think i put 17 patches into one quarter
check my build thread out plenty of glitter in use
four weeks till the plaster comes off my leg and im back into it

 

It's on course for what i thought... I think... I just wanted to see stuff saved most wouldnt touch and done well , not nessesarily "show quality " but the kinda stuff when most people see the before pic they don't believe what you started with....

I like the fact someone rather build something they really want from garbage instead of just the nice old car they can afford

Look how the Chevy body looks better on a Ford chassis!

 

What ford frame? It's a chevy 26 frame with ford axles.

 

Those doors swing like they were designed to. This body is a compilation of different years of Ford, not sure exactly what, but it is not a pure '33-'34 Ford anything.

I'm so tired of "show me your car against a wall" or "does your wife like hot rods" or "what songs do you listen to while driving your hot rod" or "stand up if you have AC in your ride"


I personally love the bare bones cars built with minimal tools and back yard know how... But that's just me.

Here's my pile of '33 coupe before and after.

 

This was the Alter Boys club trip to Bonneville for the 60th land speed races.

That's Donnie in his '40 coupe. Part of the deal Donnie and I made was once my '33 was finished we would meet on the salt....

 

YES!... Bout time pete! didnt you have a build thread?... Can you provide a link?... I kinda like the idea of this thread becoming a directory to all the cool builds, I'm sure people can get a lot of good ideas from all the inginuity from bringing these cars back from the scrap bin

I'm going to scan all my actual paper photos since all of my electronic ones disappeared. I'll post all of them from start to finish.

 

This one took me 6 years to un-rust. It was parked in a Northern Minnesota Tree row in '75. I brought it home in 2008.

Looks fairly solid at first, right, minus the minor front end collision damage???


Chassis - I ended up replacing 4 ft of each rail in the center, and ground out and rewelded the center weld over the entire length.




After blasting the body. No floor, No Rockers, No Rear Quarters...


And the Windshield and Tailgate headers were just as bad.
