Got bored and cruised up to LA yesterday. 200 mile round trip, 405 traffic, and a good time with some South Bay friends.
The car is cool and all, but the lamb is making my mouth water. Gonna have to invite the Greek relatives over now, to share some of my secret-recipe loukaniko!
This thread was worth wading through the rest of the drivel on page 1... way to stick with it, well done
Slow progress. Guest appearance in my sisters wedding Looking for some 3.57 gears. Does anyone have a line on a set?
Haven't posted in a bit. I've been commuting from San Diego to LA quite regularly trying to take care of some family stuff. I'm not sure whether I mentioned this in my introduction or not, but I'm currently in a graduate program and study craftsmanship/education. My dissertation research focuses on the period building, maintenance and modification of early cars. Who says school can't be fun? At any rate, a guy down the street from my mom surprised me with an extremely solid Mercury 8CM with complete overdrive transmission assembly. I'm going to do a lot of brain picking around these parts during the rebuild. I want to make a bit of a cheater engine and hop it up while maintaining the stock appearance. I've got a lot of free time, so I even looked into how to use the 59A style distributor, heads and intake. Any flathead gurus want to chime in on cams, heads, etc...? The essentials: Quick paint job: 100 mile test run (they stayed on): And finally, the nightmare I've been lending a hand with:
I plan on using it once I get the engine built. I can keep my eyes peeled if you're looking for one, though. Thanks guys. I appreciate it.
the greek I am not looking for one. but I have done some research on putting the newer style over drive in your car though. hit me up if you are interested.
Rad! Sounds good. I'll shoot you a message once I start sinking my teeth into the new mill. Dig the work you did on yours - big inspiration.
Killer car man. Love it!! I would love to have a '47/8 Ford myself someday. Taildragger kustom in the dreams...
Throwout bearing blues. Had a break from work between 1 and 6 and knocked it out in the driveway. Got it done in time to teach my class. Making the 400 mile round trip tomorrow for a whopping 2 hour long meeting. Let's see how she goes.
Moved my entire house in this little car... Which isn't saying much. I kicked around the idea of listing the '47 up for sale then, like clockwork, my generator started smoking. Pulled it off and peeked inside.... I wonder if I can just solder it and be on my way? Anyone have a '36 they're interesting in trading?
Meh keep fixing it. If I've learned anything it's that the only old car that has everything in working order is the one that you've fixed everything on. Get rid of the 47 for a bad generator and the 36's will crap out in a week lol
Had some interesting offers on the Ford but am glad that I hung onto it. The last few months have been a little topsy-turvy on my end since my last post. We lost my father to a long bout with cancer. During that stretch, I had driven the Ford from San Diego to LA 3-5 times a week to take care of him. He looked forward to riding with me, although found every chance he could to complain about the lack of AC. It was hotter than $#%#$% in his defense. More recently, my sister called me the other day and told me she was going into labor. I dismissed class early and hopped into the Ford to pick her up. Within the hour, I had 9 pounds of smiling baby in my hands while we waited for her husband to arrive. Did I mention that she had her baby on their wedding anniversary? It's certainly wild how things work out. This car has gotten me through some pretty significant family events, gone almost 60,000 miles, and kept me positive. More HAMB-related: I'm in the middle of this engine build and am looking for a set of heads. 3/8 x 3/8 with an Isky 400jr. I have a pretty decent set of 59AB heads that I thought about taking 0.050 off of, brazing, and then flycutting. Does anyone have a set of runnable aluminum heads? Not trying to make things more difficult than they need to be.
That's quite the update! I'm glad you've held on to it, that's a lot of memories to have in a car to have be gone.
Great thread. If u sell you'll regret it and then your life becomes boring till you get another car that treats you the same wAy. My 46 is waitin
