The Merc corral at the James Dean event in Fairmont, Indian-anna September 24th, 2015...never seen so many Mercs in one place...ever...!!! IMG_2632.JPG

You name it, it's been done to a Mercury. IF you've never been to the Fairmont, Indiana/James Dean event, put it on your bucket list NOW...there were over 2100 cars registered there this year...and 2760 cars registered at the Gas City/Ducktail event just three miles away...!!! You absolutely will not regret attending either...!!!

If I'm not mistaken, this beauty had a removable top. I wonder where it is now?

How about some black and whites pictures from Glasgow. Pictures were taking in Wichita, KS.
Anyone recognize the 59 Buick? Yes, it is Darryl Starbird. Gary told me they were drag racing
at the airport and Darryl drove up in the Buick. It would have been kool to have been there...

  26. OK, I've been a slacker on this thread and haven't put up my fair share lately. Here's a few random ones I have collected from everywhere:

  27. ^ Nice ones, Dr. Dave. Sonny's Dodge is one of those cars that made an impact on me at an early age. Back in the Classic & Custom Magazine days.....

  28. I'm right there with you Sancho. Still have that issue of C&C (and all the rest of the issues, LOL). Sonny's car is in my top 10 fave's of all time....maybe the top 5 or even 3. I still remember reading that article that he started it, but it took like maybe 13 years to finish due to jobs, family and life in general. As a know it all 14-ish year old, I thought to myself, "Man, 13 years? I would never take that long to finish a car!!" Well, life has a funny way of humbling you.....this weekend I will be pulling my first car ('64 Pontiac Catalina 'vert) out of the back of the shop, after a 21 year sleep, and restarting the long process of finishing it.....the clock is currently at 31 years and counting. Sonny built his at the speed of light compared to smarty pants 'ol me. ;)

Fellas....I am about to start on a 49 Ford for a customer, and he wants a mild late 50`s style car with radiused rear wheel openings and Buick side trim. I know about Joe Tocchini`s Mystery Ford, and the convert with the Vicky top on it that is in the Nov `54 R&C, and the convert in the July `56 Car Craft. Can you recall any other cars with this treatment? Pics? Anyone?

This Customer is a pretty visual guy. It is always good to be able to show pictures to get those ideas firmed up.....
