    Help! I drive a stock 1956 Plymouth Savoy Every few days I loose all power while driving. The radio, heater, accessories, and engine all loose electrical power (headlight circuit still works though). The car works again when I restart the engine. I believe it is due to a sloppy ignition switch. Any other ideas of what it could be?

    So while the car is running, it shuts off and the headlights work but the dash lights dont and the car doesn't run?

    Yes, While I am driving I loose all electrical to the dash, engine and horn. But the headlights still work.

  7. Guys - who are you using for the back rear window rubber seal - I will be needing on for my 56 Fury hardtop....tryin' to get it back on the road.....thanks all !

    The stock headlight circuit is wired directly to the battery via a 20 amp circuit breaker (1566038) and the others are switched so it would look like the problem is in the switched path, I would be suspicious of the main input power terminal connection rather than a ground. :confused:

    UPDATE: I rewired almost everything. But, tests show the used ignition switch I put in is at fault. So, I Bypassed it and installed a coil on/off switch. Problem temporarily solved. Now I the radio might cut out on me but I can still drive. THE MORAL OF THIS STORY IS DON'T TRUST USED PARTS.

    So, I got to tell you this story and how I learned that lesson.

    Back when the earth was flat and I was a broke 16 year old in high school and one of the water pumps on my 51 ford flatty started leaking I grabbed my meager tool kit and ventured up to a old unused dump site where many old cars had been pushed over the edge into a steep canyon. After a difficult climb down to the bottom I found a suitable donor and started taking the pump off only to be interrupted by voices from above and looked up to see a couple of guys about to roll some tires on rims over the bank. I only just had time to jump inside one of the old cars before airborne bouncing tires and wheels went whizzing by. Scared the crap out of me and took awhile for me to get brave enough to come out even after I was sure that they had gone.

    Resumed taking the pump off with many looks up the hill but after a difficult trip back up the canyon the pump and I made it home. The end of the story: The used dump pump leaked worse then the one that was on my car!:D

    Anybody know the stock wheel specs on a 56 plym...I think they are 15x5.5. Wondering about the backspace

    That's funny, last week I was surfing Google for chrome trim ideas on suburban's and your car came up! Nice car, so why is it so rare? (makes mine one too). Yes, that is snow.

    315 Super Red Ram v8 Engine and automatic transmission from 1956 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer 315 cid. Two barrel. Complete carb to pan. 55,000 miles. The original owner parked the running car in a garage in 1975. I bought the car in 2001 and pulled the engine to make way for a 408 stroker. The engine has been stored inside my garage the entire time. I never tried to start it but it did turn over by hand.

    Seeing this thread and others close related to 55 56 Dodge & Plymouth Cars brings back memories of my friend Max. He put a 440 in his '56 Dodge Cornet, 2 door hardtop. The car had less than 50,000 miles on it when the old red ram gave up. He also put in a 727 trans but gave up on the push button shift and put a floor shift in it. The car is still as is the way he passed and in his garage waiting for the family to take interest. No it's not for sale or I would buy it. Many memories of tinkering together on our cars and road trips around Michigan. RIP Max!

    Hey guys, been a while since I've posted on here... Buttoning up the project sometime this week. Somewhere along the way, my door sill plates disappeared. Can't seem to find them. Does anyone know where I might find a set for a two-door model? I've so far tried DVAP and Big M but no luck.
